Back in mid August the Tennessee Volunteers landed a surprise commitment from super athlete Delvin Jones (Miami, Fl/ Miami Palmetto HS). Jones stated the reason he committed to the Vols was the ability to play early at Tennessee, the coaching staff, and the chance to play either wide receiver, tight end, or defensive end at the next level.

As the season wore on and Jones continued to star on the gridiron some recruiting experts felt the commitment to Tennessee might not stick the entire time leading up until national signing day. Jones had stated he would possibly visit other schools and that the coaching staff was ok with him doing so.

With the high school season done for almost a month and now the Tennessee Vols bowl game over VolNation.com caught up with Jones to check in with him and see where he currently stands.

“Right now I am still committed to Tennessee,” said Jones. “I have just been really busy with school and working out but things have been going really good for me.”

While Jones is getting ready for the first year of four of five years in college he still states he will visit one more school to make sure Tennessee is the best place for him.

“I plan on visiting Ole Miss sometime in the end of January,” explained Jones. “I have heard good things about Ole Miss and am looking to see what they have going on up there that is so exciting.”

With a dead period ending Jones hasn’t talked to the coaching staff at Tennessee for a bit but before that it was on a regular basis.

“I haven’t talked to any coaches in about a week but before that it was pretty regular for me to talk with the coaches,” says Jones.

With the dead period now over look for the Vols staff to get in contact with this exciting and talented player who many Vol fans hope will don the white and orange next fall.

With a few coaches leaving the program Jones also spoke briefly about those coaches leaving and then also new coaches coming into the program.

“I don’t feel like the coaches who left will be that big of an issue for me at Tennessee,” says Jones. “I committed to Tennessee because of the school and the chance to play early and the coaches still there I get a long great with. It will not be a problem at all for me.”

So while the Vols continue to shore up the remaining spots in the 2010 class and then shift focus over to 2011 this talented athlete looks to be headed to play football next fall at Tennessee.
