180619Eddie_GranSources close to Tennessee special teams and running backs coach Eddie Gran tell NoleInsider.com that he is close to accepting an offer to join Jimbo Fisher’s staff at FSU.

Eddie Gran, a key member of Tommy Tuberville’s coaching staff at Auburn and Ole Miss for 14 years, spent last season with Lane Kiffin at Tennessee.

If he accepts the position, Gran will likely hit the recruiting trail soon for the Seminoles.

Gran produced some of the most productive running backs in school history at Auburn, including successfully teaming NFL first-round picks Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams.

Seven NFL running backs were tutored under Gran at some point in their careers. Among them, Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson and Deuce McAllister. Williams was an All-America at Auburn and earned 2005 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Brown and McAllister were NFL first-round picks and Johnson earned 2000 SEC Player of the Year. Gran’s other running backs included Rudi Johnson, Kenny Irons and Heath Evans.

Say good bye to the good ole boy network of past UT players and coaching staff staying around for years and years like it was before. I hate this moving around of a coaching staff and especially when they have only been at the school for one season. So what, you hire an incredible staff for one season and then it begins to fall apart year by year? What’s the purpose? Greed > commitment to a team and it’s players, which sucks in my opinion!

Anybody esle just not like this idea that “coaches are gonna come and go” like a revolving door? I understand that clk believes a good program looses coaches but I just don’t think I believe it. A good program holds on to good coaches. I have an uneasy feeling about this whole “run the program like an NFL team” philosophy. I’m n ot buying it but then again I may be wrong. Besides that, I feel generally positive about the direction of the program.

two words: Pete Carrol .. Nobody loses more quality coaches and maintains such a high level. Kiffin wants to mold the the program after SC.

Iam with you guys. I am not convinced this good. I am curious about what goes on behind the scenes. Just saying, “I don’t think this good at all”.

Losing Coach Gran is a huge blow to Tennessee. Not only has he proven to be an outstanding running back coach and recruiter, but above all of that, he is a WONDERFUL man. A man of great conviction in his faith, and his family.
Again, truly a great loss for Tennessee.
