Chidi Okonya commits to Tennessee<\/figcaption><\/figure>Just after a Big Orange Caravan appearance in Atlanta by Butch Jones<\/strong> earlier this week, Tennessee has picked up yet another football commitment from the state of Georgia.<\/p>\n

Chidi Okonya<\/strong>, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound defensive end from Riverdale, GA, committed to Tennessee on Friday evening over other finalists: Clemson, Ole Miss, Stanford and Duke.<\/p>\n

Okonya is rated as a four-star prospect by Scout and 247, while Rivals and ESPN rate him three stars.<\/p>\n

“Overall, a safe and solid take for the Vols,” wrote Chad Simmons of Scout.com<\/a>. “Okonya has his best football ahead of him. <\/span>He will add weight, improve his technique, and he will always be good in the classroom.”<\/p>\n

Academics played an important role in Okonya’s decision. He boasts a 4.0 GPA and ranks fifth in his class.<\/p>\n

\u201cTennessee has an excellent business school, tremendous academic resources, world-class athletic facilities and a very passionate fan base,\u201d Okonya told the Atlanta Journal Constitution<\/a>. \u201cMost importantly, I have developed a really sound relationship with the coaching staff. Tennessee is the school where I felt most comfortable calling my next home\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the football field he is an SEC-caliber athlete, very long, athletic and the frame to add weight,” said Riverdale coach Terry Herrod<\/a>. He has only been playing football since the 8th grade. He loves the game and plays it like a warrior.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the commitment, Tennessee is now ranked No. 10 in the overall team rankings, according to 247Sports and No. 8 according to Rivals.com.<\/p>\n
