Chattanooga quarterback Transferring to Tennessee to play receiver

Chattanooga quarterback Zack Weatherly announced on Twitter Monday night that he is transferring to Tennessee, where he expects to play wide receiver.

“First I would like to thank Chattanooga for everything they have done for me,” Weatherly wrote. “But after a lot of thought and prayer I have decided to switch positions to wide receiver and transfer to the University of Tennessee to continue my athletic and academic career!”

Weatherly reshirted the 2016 season for the Mocs. He made the Dean’s List and A.D. Honor Roll in the fall, according to the UTC website.

In high school, Weatherly was the 3A Mr. Football runner-up at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, where he threw for 2,124 yards and 32 touchdowns his senior year. He also rushed for 333 yards.

According to 247Sports, Weatherly was the the No. 51 prospect in the state of Tennessee and the No. 98 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2016.

  1. He is going from an FCS to FBS so I don’t think he would have to sit out and since he redshirted he may not have to sit since he didn’t play. But hey, I’m probably wrong.

    • I’m not positive but I think if you’re transferring from FBS to FCS you can play right away. However, if you’re transferring from FCS to FBS you have to sit out a year.
