Like other folks and schools across the country, I was puzzled about Akron's team name. I imagined lots of stuff. Some exhibitionist guy standing on a corner threatening to unzip his trousers. A dress made of 100% zippers. A bullet whizzing through the air, you name it. So I decided to just go to an Akron site and have them tell me what Zips are. I read it: their mascot is Zippy the kangaroo and they got the name from tennis shoes in the 1900s that were popular and had rubber soles..that’s my summary lol

Got it. But you know, some folks can only do the best they can with what they got. Further, some don't have much, still, it's nice they try, or just make the best of a bad situation.
