Seems like every time someone makes a comparison, it's against Meyer or Saban.
Well guess what, there's about 125 other teams besides us, doing the same thing.

Those two are the gold standard. They are the ones perennially playing for the national championship. No sense trying to compare vs lesser coaches IMHO when their collective standard of excellence is what we're shooting for.

:banghead2: not the point.

Then why mention Fulmer in this context and seemingly draw parallels between him and Butch? Fulmer's HOF accomplishments put him closer to Meyer than Butch who has accomplished nothing so far other few great recruiting classes.

i stated that in the coaching philosophy i was comapring it to.

fulmer is not in the conversation with Meyer. and that's not to say Fulmer wasn't good/great or whatever.

But my point is there was nothing wrong with Fulmers philosophy either - that's where we disagree. Saying to someone 'I do what I do and I don't need to adjust to you' is fine if you do it really well and have great success which Fulmer had other then against Florida. A lot of other great coaches did that over the years (i.e. Tom Osborne - always ran the same simple offensive system at Nebraska and had crazy success with it because they did it so well it could not be stopped). Butch on the other hand is not having consistent success with his system so far and especially against strong opposition - this is the key difference between him and Fulmer. But this is the year it can all change and it needs to start with W this Saturday.

in the interests of the point of the original conversation about these top tier coaches having the ability, and philosophy, to game plan according to YOUR weakness, and it translating to ultra successful results, the "we do what we do" only works against the inferior teams you play. it didn't work against FL, and let's face it, that was the bar we played against while Fulmer was here. it didn't help Peyton Maning against New England or Florida.

tom osbourne not withstanding, in general, i don't like that philosophy...we do what we do. that's all. Osbourne also didn't have conference championships (for long), the BCS or the Play off. they'd go undefeated in the Big 8 and take their chances with votes.

you like it. i don't. i think that's kind of the end. and i don't hate fulmer.
