Your Top 5 Recruiting Schools

First post here. Just struck me as odd that so many people have said Stanford. I'm probably one of the few guys on here that currently or previously attended Stanford. Its a fantastic school, but it has a terrible football atmosphere. I quit going to the games (with a few exceptions) after my freshman year because they were so boring. Our Stadium is nicknamed the library by the players because it is so quiet. But it kinda makes sense because about half of the people going to school there have not heard of American football until they stepped on campus. In addition, the facilities are way below the standard that has been recently set by UT and others. Overall, some other schools definitely have more to offer in terms of football.

Nice post. Also struck me as weird so many people were picking Stanford, but to each their own.

I found myself falling into the "stay close to home" mindset that many recruits factor in. Here are mine:

1. Alabama - I hate them, but if I were a recruit, the allure of a serious NC shot every year would be hard to pass up.
2. Ole Miss - Never been but have always heard it's a great atmosphere what a bunch of hotties.
3. Auburn - " "
4. Vanderbilt - I know, I know. But Nashville is an incredible city, and I'd get a solid education.
5. Hawaii - No, I'm not kidding. As long as I could find one coach/trainer down there that I thought had a brain, I'd seriously consider living there for four years.

Oregon- Always wanted to live out there and facilities.

UCLA- On the upswing and in LA. Also way better location then USC.

Texas- Austin, TX- Yup!

Alabama- I would take money, document and video proof of everything and then turn myself into the NCAA

Arizona State- Great place to live.

Hawaii would have to be the only other place to consider. I would try and recruit every stud I could to follow.

FSU - Ive spent most of my life 2 hours away, had lots of friends go there, and a teammate walked on

LSU - in the south, game atmosphere, solid program, SEC

UGA - SEC, between my FL home and my family in TN

UCLA - Cali

UCF - Orlando, had friends that went there

My decision would depend on my OV to UCLA and how it went. More than likely would end up at FSU to stay close to home and go to school with a bunch (over 30) of my friends, and would be cool to play on the team that all of my friends are fans of. 2 hours away from home so I could make the drive basically anytime I wanted

UT is a great school from a parent and recruit perspective. You have watersports, hunting, fishing, Mountains, 4seasons, low cost of living, Southern Belles and good food. Great Business School. Super fan support.

Vandy is great for Medical Majors and scumbag law degrees.

For Eng Maj athletes, all 20: I would suggest aTm, GT or VT.

FSU & FL, bama, MissSt are all in dumpy areas.

Athens GA isn't too bad.

Miami is right on the coast

USC and UCLA are in the gridlocked traffic Jam ghetto.

If you really want girls, go to Pepperdine or UC-Santa Barbara. No Football I think.

Colorado is nice but you probably will be too stoned and drunk to get a degree. Same for Wash.

Probably the big surprise for girls would be Utah and BYU. And those are good schools but not known for the party scene.

From the Big Ten I would select Wisconsin and from the Big 12 I would pick Baylor.

Air Force, Navy and Army are great because you get a free ride and get paid while your in school and get a Commission when you graduate. But if you get kicked out, you have to reimburse Uncle Sam.

If I was an average three-star recruit (i.e., with practically zero expectation of ever making the NFL), I would have to weigh academics and long-term career opportunities at least equal to football factors. So, as an average recruit, here would be my top 5 schools:

5. Penn State. Solid academic reputation, strong alumni connections, loyal fans, the nation's second-biggest stadium (capacity 107,000). I would be excited to play for a confident young coach in restoring a once-great program with decades of tradition. Unfortunately, "Happy Valley" is in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of miles away from any beach.

4. Northwestern. An elite urban university located just minutes outside of Chicago, Northwestern has a great academic reputation with a particularly strong sports journalism program. The football program, while not elite, is a perennial top-25 team with an established coach running a fun spread offense.

3. Stanford. Among the top universities in the world, Stanford has recently turned into a Pac-12 conference favorite. The only reason it isn't number 1 on this list is the strong possibility that coach David Shaw might leave soon and send the program into a tailspin. Stanford used to be a Pac-10 cellar dweller, and it's hard to imagine USC, UCLA, Cal and Washington all remaining below their historical performance levels for very much longer.

2. Texas. Elite flagship state school located in a hip city, I would also be excited about playing for Charlie Strong as he turns Texas back into an annual national championship contender. The resources for this football program cannot be matched.

1. Michigan. Probably the top public university in the country, it also has one of the largest alumni networks. Brady Hoke is running out of time to meet the expectations of a championship program, but I couldn't turn down an opportunity to play in the America's biggest football stadium or participate in college football's biggest rivalry.

We'll I'd OBVIOUSLY chose the VOL'S first but since that's not an option.

1. Ya'll make Stanford sound like a good option. Good education, great coach.
2. UF Yeah I hate them too... but I've been on their campus and it's full of beautiful scenery and women. It would keep me in the SEC and since It's winter and I'm freezing up here in Kentucky Florida sounds really nice right now. If I played D this would be my leader for sure. Great chance to get to the NFL.
3. FSU for all of the reasons above plus the fact that they right now are winning and the future looks bright.
4. Bama (SO GROSS TO THINK ABOUT) but come one they get players drafted left or right. Odds are you win a national championship in your time there and they put guys in the league like crazy.
5. LSU. If I played on the D who wouldn't love to play for the chief and maybe I could go duck hunting with the Robertson's.

I can't imagine not playing if I could for the Vols but I'd have to pick #2

(leaves computer to go throw up).

((hates himself for the rest of the day))

(((hates OP for making him even wonder this)))

I am a big fan of stadiums and game atmosphere. I also look at history and overall prestige in the college football world. That being said, here are my top 5...

FSU
Stanford
Ohio St
Michigan
Texas

And I would probably pick Stanford. But regardless of who was recruiting me, if Tennessee offered I would commit and politely reject all other visits and contact. Also, I would play tight end since I am a 6'4", 230 lb white boy and way too slow to play receiver.

Personally, I would want to be a safety if I was playing college ball. These are my top five:
5. Stanford
Location, Academics, Coaching, Scheme, etc
4. Auburn
Coaching. SEC.
3. Oklahoma
Family ties to OK, grown up liking the sooners, coaching.
2. LSU
Success at getting players in the league. SEC. Overall excellent defense. Talented DBs every year.
1. Clemson
Always a contender in ACC. Game Atmosphere. Dabo.

I would take my top 2 to signing day and wouldn't release any information for a week leading up.

I love how Stanford seems to be an approved place by most of us if we can't go to UT. GO CARDINAL!

1. LSU - incredible gameday atmosphere, quality coaching staff
2. Auburn - had a family friend that went there and loved it, later played pro ball
3. VA Tech - running out to "Enter Sandman" would be great
4. FSU - Chief Osceola planting the flaming spear at midfield would also be a rush
5. Oregon - also a great gameday experience

In the end, however, nothing tops Tennessee. The hairs stand up on the back of my neck when the team runs through the "T." And of course, the more you hear "Rocky Top," the better (probably) Tennessee is playing.

I know it sounds crazy but if not ut it would be app state or etsu because app state is about 30 mins from where half of my family lives and etsu is about 30-45 mins from where the other half of my family lives

3. Texas - Tradition

4. LSU - Game day atmosphere, Les Miles.

I know this was a thread last year, but things change in a year.

If you were being recruited by schools, what schools would round out your top 5? And, where would you eventually choose to attend? Obviously, unless you're a rival poster, you would select Tennessee, so leave them out. You can be whatever position you like. Give a small reason why you would like to go there.

1. Arizona St- Girls, Good team, girls, cool uniforms, girls

2. LSU- Great game day atmosphere, SEC, great program, chance at 'ship

3. Clemson- Spread offense is coming into the pros, good atmosphere, good talent, $$$

4. Stanford- Smashmouth O & D, Shaw is a great coach, top notch education, California, girls

5. Michigan St- Traditional pro series offense, great D, like the uniforms, Dantoni is a great coach

I would select Stanford. Love the way they play football. That degree would take you a long way. There are tons of honeys walking around. Shaw is a top 10 coach. Good shot at making the playoffs as well.

Dude, unless you like nerdy Asian computer science majors, there are not a lot of hot girls at Stanford. Certainly not compared to Arizona St., which you correctly point out their bounty.

1. Stanford/ Write your own paychecks with this degree...until you retire at 45 or 50
2. Hawaii/ Come on...settle down there after and raise my boys like surfer dudes
3. Miami/ Great locale, small private school, good education, good tradition
4. Notre Dame/ Who never heard of Notre Dame...good private university education
5. Auburn/ They pay their scholarship athletes and lawyer up if anyone dissapproves

You've obviously never been there.

Lot's of great things about Stanford as mentioned. May well be the most beautiful campus in America and the education is right up there with the best going.

The girls there are very intelligent and much more focused on their mental development than their appearance. If the "Girls of ____" threads are your favorites on VN, then you might want to rethink your choice.

Was stationed in Arizona while in the Marines, too dry, too hot and Phoenix isn't really close to any other large town.

LSU: Louisana is a dump.

Clemson: Not in the S.E.C.

Michigan: Too freaking cold! why would I elect to play in a colder climate when I can find everything they have to offer in a warmer climate?

Standford: My choice of those 5 would be Stanford. Not in the S.E.C. but they have fair competition from the PAC - 12. They send players to the NFL regularly. Warm climate. Girls, girls, girls.......... Education!!!!

I loved the weather in Yuma! Give me the Arizona heat over any kind of cold weather any time.
