As I have posted somewhere in the forum, my preseason pick was 25-6
I broke the season down into 5 sections:
Games up to and including Bahamas: 6-0
Games prior to the SEC season: 6-1 (Thinking we might lose 1 of the road games: picking Illinois)
First 3rd of the SEC season 5-1 (Thinking we will lose 1 of Texas and Florida on the road: picking Florida)
Middle 3rd of SEC season 4-2 Thinking that we will split with Kentucky and also drop the game at Auburn)
Final 3rd of the SEC season 3-3 (Hoping I'm wrong on this: Dropping the game at home against AL and two of the road games: picking A&M & Ole Miss)
Best case 27-4 and worst case 22-9
Enjoying the season and I am on track ... with my thinking, but it is way to early to be calculating seeding already for the NCAA tournament???? SMH ( Lunardi and ESPN begging for clicks. )
Spoiler: Tennessee is a 1 seed in the East. No, I'm not kidding. Bracketology: ESPN releases predictions for 2025 NCAA Tournament after Week 3

Craziness. The thing is that folks will get so worked up over bracketology so early. The mental gymnastics that will occur…..

I’m reverting back to my time at UT in the mid to late 70’s. Tennessee goes 16-2, and their two losses are to mediocre SEC teams.

16-2 was the end of Ernie and Bernie in 1976-77. Single digit (4 and 7) losses at Florida (10-8) and at Georgia (3-15). The 7 point loss at Georgia makes no sense at all. Caused TN to share the 1977 SEC championship with KY despite beating them in both games.

I remember that well. I was absolutely crushed by those losses. Had visions of 18-0, which it should have been. I knew Georgia wasn’t good, but forgot they were really bad.

Preseason picks I made in Phil Steele's Mag: Fla--6-6, A&M-8-4, UT 10-2, Okla 7-5, Mizz 9-3, Lsu 10-2 (Ugh) OMiss 10-2, Bama 8-4, Txs 11-1. Uga 10-2. My big miss was Auburn 10-2. But they lost 3 they could have won without all those QB TO's & just plain bad luck.

I think 24-7 we lose 1 random OOC game that makes no sense and 6 in conference. 5 to ranked teams and one random. If we don't have any more major injuries and Dubar, Carr lock down rotation spots that 27-4 or better is on the table. With Estrella out for the season we are vulnerable to teams with a lot of big bodies to throw at us. Never thought I'd be saying that this preseason. I was super wrong about Phillips and Estrella's potential.. I figured they would be the thing holding us back.. now Estrella being hurt might be it but Phillips's development might make up for it.

Funny one ... I checked ESPNs odds today for our remaining games they have only one team favored against us @Auburn. @kentucky they have as a tossup, we are massively favored by ESPN to win every other game. so ESPN has us 29-2

The conference is really tough this year . . . I think 12-6 would be a great season in conference. I think we will be 10-8 to 12-6 depending on injuries and shooting. I say we finish 23-8 or 22-9. 3rd or 4th in the SEC behind Bama, Auburn, and UK. Road conference wins will be hard to get.

4-5 seed in the NCAA tournament . . . But a team NO ONE will want to play . . . Because I suspect our long term MO will be . . . If Lanier is scoring / shooting well . . . We will play with and be positioned to beat about anyone.

Right now Auburn looks like the best conference team to me.

26-5 with an Elite 8 appearance and possibly breaking the Final Four barrier.

Alright:
I think we finish OOC undefeated including Illinois - we are favored to win all of those games and defense travels:
13-0
15-4 in the SEC - losses at Auburn/Kentucky/Oklahoma and we drop one at home.
28-4 is best case good for a one seed.
Worst case we drop 2 more in SEC play
26-6
I think that would be good enough for a 2/3 seed.

Illinois was ready at the opening tip yesterday versus Arkansas, but didn’t smoke them after the hot start. That’s going to be a really good test.
