Finebaum is a loud obnoxious moron who will say anything for viewers. From Memphis and went to UT and sucks Saban nuts on the daily.

Comments on ESPN calculated to generate viewership. The TN fanbase has never been closer to just walking away. That's lots of eyeballs and considerable amount of revenue. Anyone who covers the Vols is facing the same situation that the university itself is. Don't let attendance at a free scrimmage skew the facts. Rage has morphed to apathy among the general population of TN fans (not the small, unrepresentative cohort on the Internet.)

While the fanbase is tired of losing, I seriously doubt many are walking away. We sell out games consistently even while losing. True fans endure even when it is hard. Love your name though Brother. Jesus does save indeed!

Fake news

I’ll guve you that “taking that city and state BY STORM” is a bit over the top....that’s not gonna happen until he starts winning at a really high level.

However, here are the other things Finebaum said......

“He’s not a carney barker, he’s not going door to door to try to sell something to someone they don’t want, need or like — Butch Jones did for the last five years. He looks you in the eye, gives you a straight answer and that has resonated very well.”

“I talked to him the other day, and I don’t think he cracked a smile during the entire interview, but he resonates very well,” Finebaum continued. “Now that’s all good, can he win on the field? I think he can. I think it’s going to be a slow process because Butch Jones, again, not to turn him into a pinata — although it wouldn’t disappoint me if I did — he left that program in a complete mess. He left it in a complete disastrous situation. That will be difficult for Jeremy to get over those bumps.”

What part of ANY of that “Fake news”? Imho, spoiler alert......none of it.

I’m at the lowest point of my fandom. I’ve logged in here for the first time in years to attempt to spark some hope. Honestly don’t have much even with the rosy clickbait stories.

The only difference I have with what you've quoted from Finebaum's comments: "difficult" is in the eye of the beholder and I doubt Pruitt sees anything as difficult, he just has a laser focus and a plan and he is carrying it out step by step and day by day. Do you think he's going to get depressed or let up on the gas if we don't have a better than 0.500 year this year?

You mean to say that being less of a jackass than Butch Jones isn't getting you fired up enough??

That seems to be where the bar has been set for Pruitt among a section of this fan base and the media.

I'm firmly in the prove it with wins camp with this unproven coach and all the fluff pieces in the world isn't gonna move the needle.

it's now April. all you have to go on is what's available.

i'm not saying that we should take every click bait 'article', and throw a party.

i am saying that what we are seeing right now is a departure from what we've seen the past 5 years, in just about all aspects. and for all of us that wanted a change, that's at least a good starting point.

and hopefully, sooner than later, that will result in a departure from what we've seen on the field the last 5 years as well.

i think you take a wait and see approach short term. i just don't think this schedule, combined with a brand new staff, new schemes on both sides of the ball, new s&c program etc....translates in to instant success.

i do think you can be optimistic, or excited, about the future though. the recruiting is going in the right direction, and hopefully that will continue, and as has been pointed out, there just aren't very many real negatives or warning signs you can point to based on what we've seen/read up to this point.

in the end, PF was correct in one thing "now, can he win on the field?". it will always come back to that, regardless of what else happens.

I would be more positive if Pruitt the “top recruiter” could have finished stronger with the first class. It was the local media’s biggest selling point that he could recruit with the best of them. Not a good start IMO and just a bit of a concern. We’re losing ground with all of our rivals in that department.

If an AD and HC change can't spark hope what could?

Once games are being won it becomes reality.

Hope and expectations is all there is until Sept 1st. The level of confidence you have in your hopes and expectations becoming reality comes from the reports we get on the team from any and all sources. You could be more informed than the rest of us giving you either more or less confidence than the rest of us.

i think a lot of people, self included, thought the same. i was disappointed as well with how we finished.

but again, take a step back, that class was ranked i think near 60ish in the country when he accepted the job.

he got it to the top 20 in two months. the thing we're upset about is that he didn't land the CA 5*'s and the GA 5* LB.

sure that's disappointing...but you can't let that make you lose sight of what was actually accomplished.

and so far so good for the 19 and 20 classes.

If you think Paul Finebaum's opinion about anything is news, I'm pretty sure I'd be wasting my time trying to convince you otherwise.

I wouldn’t call it a storm. I’d say it’s a slow steady drizzle.

All Vol fans I’ve talked to hope he does well but are cautiously optimistic. We’ve been burned too many times now. Plus most think he’ll leave for Bama the second it’s available to him thus the caution.

With the early date, it makes it much harder for a new coach to close well. Let's see his first true class before bringing out the pitchforks.

At least give the guy a reasonable chance before going all Chicken Little.

He believes Smart can’t beat Pruitt...:)
