I hate to burst your Vol High bubble but we live in a state that does not produce that much top talent. Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, California produce alot of top talent, unfortunately the schools in those states are producing winning programs and are getting alot those recruits. I am glad Hambone saw this and decided to try a different approach and hire a HC who was a proven recruiter and get him at a price that we can afford to pay more money to assistants that are proven recruiters. I think Monte will not have to recruit that much given his name and his reputation in the NFL. Either way you look at it the road to elite status is based on getting the top talent in and coaching them up to winners at the next level. If UT begins to return to the powerhouse we once was that will go a long way in getting the top talent from neighboring states.

How many high school players know who Monte Kiffin is?

Here is a question for you....how many returning starters will decide to transfer? 0? 1? 2? how many returning starters will not impress the new coaching staff with their schemes? the problem with the returning starters is all of them will have to man up and make the team. And we still do not have a proven QB

Your little attacks are getting old kid

the post wasn't an attack, it simply cleared up the fact that the cupboards aren't bare
not to mention I believe our recruiting class was top 10 last year

Recruiting rank for the Vols 2007 signing class
Scout - 24th
Rivals - 23rd
ESPN - 15th

Not a top 10 class

We've actually got most of our starters back:

Crompton, or take your pick of QB's
3 of the 5 Offensive lineman
Gerald Jones, Austin Rogers and Denarius Moore are back

On Defense Wes Brown, Dan Williams, Rico McCoy, Dennis Rogan, Eric Berry and Morley are back
Yeah, we return a bunch of guys from an awful team.

I'm 31 and growing up you could just feel something special about U.T. Football. We may have not had 10 + wins every season but our rivaliry games with Auburn and Alabama were like Championship games when I was a kid.
Even before we got Fulmer and our 6th championship, our players always played their hearts out, and did it with the pride of wearing a Volunteer uniform. IMO this is what makes us special, the tradition. This last year, as what happened at the end coach Major's carrer here, I think we weren't giving it our all. it really seemed a lot of times players were just giving up. Aside from a few ( like Berry) , everybody forgot about the pride as well. I can only hope ( and our last two games were promissing) that the loss of CPF combined with the hiring of Coach Kiffin has made our players stronger, and will help them remember what exactly it means to put that orange jersey on. You are not playing for yourself or any one person. You represent knoxville and the whole state of Tennessee ,and everything we stand for. As long as you are giving everything you possibly can on that field, no TN fan can or will expect more!

Well Im 16 and Fulmer is all Ive ever known also. I defended him plenty of times when my dad came down on him. The close win over Northern Illinois pushed me towards the "Anti-Fulmer" side and the Wyoming loss did it for me. Im ready for Coach Kiffin to start the winning tradition at Tennessee again.

I'm in my 30's, so Majors was coach when I was old enough to truly become a fan, in high school near the end of his era. It is a sort of deja vu to see a coach who means so much to the university be forced out.

Fulmer has handled the situation with a lot more class than Majors did.

However, something had to be done. We're all a bit edgy, but this is something that so many schools have had to go through many times, while someone my age has only seen it once (that I can really remember).

Fulmer took us to a level that Majors could not. We'll just have to wait and see if Kiffin can take us back. I'm optimistic, but that doesn't mean we're not worried. A 17 year security blanket is gone.

He's just setting up his next season's "oh if Fulmer was here he would have won the SEC with all of those returning starters" line.

I was just letting another poster know that the cupboard wasn't left bare...

All I know as a Tennessee fan is Fulmer on the sidelines. I've wanted him gone for awhile now, and was happy when he resigned. However, it actually hit me last night and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little sad about it. I still think its for the best and I'm very excited about the future of our program.
