I'm on the minority side of this. The girl didn't go into the game to be rubbed on (virtually). I don't see this as physical, it's more along the lines of verbal assault. The game should provide a means to moderate, report, block, and/or ban users who attack others.
I get why "sexual assault" in a VR world sounds ludicrous, but at the same time, how many people have blocked someone they are offended by on this very board? Or had their posts deleted because they were deemed inappropriate? If D4H annoys you, you have the option to report or block him.
The girl didn't like what was being done or said to her, so her only option of escape was to quit the game. Why should she be forced to quit playing a game she enjoys (and paid for) because someone won't leave her alone?
It's dumb and creepy, but criminal? This woman just wants her 5 minutes of fame. It's ridiculous to claim you were sexual assaulted in a video game. That's Jmo and might not be popular, but this is just a "look at me" moment. Our society is so ****ed up now, we have people who legitimately are sexual offenders and we also have people that are offended or scream assault over a damn video game.I don't understand laughing at this.
This is much different from "stare rape" or those other arguments I've heard. This is a legitimate unwanted sexual action. A player harasses another sexually, and even touches them in the VR. Super creepy. The game needs to provide an avenue for reporting or making these incidents not happen. Basically what PoTs said. It's definitely an issue that needs to be addressed.
I'm with you here..... However, it doesn't absolve the "offenders" from being stupid..... But sexual assault?
It's called SHARP and I have to still take it yearly as a Government employee.I agree that it's definitely more sexual harassment than assault.
You have a military background, if I remember correctly. Surely you've taken the SAPR training =)
And while this does stink of attention mongering, the developers of the game responded and have immediately begun implementing a solution to allow users to protect themselves against unwanted interactions.

Or more than likely, dumb young adults a kids being stupid. Your serial rapist angle is like blaming real world violence on games like GTA. Also, I just don't get the "I'm being sexual assaulted" because if makes me feel violated in a game where you are getting virtually shot in the face. Funny how people can separate that feeling of actually being shot but can't for "sexual assault".A shrink might say the person (male or female) doing the VR sexual assault-because that's exactually what it is- is already mostly past any inhibitions preventing them from doing real world violent rape. How many separate VR assaults can be done in one in night of game play? A serial rapist could be honing skills. I don't see this as something to scoff at at all.
