Let's say (hypothetically speaking of course) we hire a new coach. For AT LEAST the first year that that new coach comes in here we're more than likely going to still suck(to be blunt).
I just get this feeling(can't imagine why:whistling:) that a lot of people in here are under the impression that the very same day we get a new coach(if we do) the program is going to just miraculously turn itself around. That's simply not going to be the case, you do realize that, right?

No. The talent is there. Id rather suck one more year and then compete for championships than be good next year but never win the big games.

I doubt that. Most people will be excited for the long term direction of the program, even if 2013 is a year that is hardly notable. People want to know that the coach of this program is wholly competent, and there are a number of hires that would instill confidence with the fans and the boosters.

I'll take either of these scenarios in a heartbeat - neither are realistic, but just examples to prove your argument is weak.

Florida '05 "sucked" (9-3) but still managed to beat Tennessee

Florida '06 won the BCS NC.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Bama '07 sucked (7-6) but still managed to beat Tennessee

Bama '08 won SEC West

Bama '09 won BCS NC

I agree and disagree. Will we contend for the sec next year? No. But if everyone returns (doubtful?) I think we could be a pretty good team. Obviously the defense will still need help. I dont expect everyone to return, however. In particular hunter and maybe bray.

We would be clear cut underdogs to oregon, fla, and bama. Georgia loses a lot, but will still be talented. South carolina has never really impressed me. I think auburn is on the schedule next year?

You bring an entire new coaching team in here and there's going to be completely different concepts being taught, new strategies, new styles, new plays, new routes, the kids will have to buy into all that as well as absorb it and learn it. Surely you can't possibly think that's going to be a quick process, even with talented kids?
At the very best you might see a decent team the second half of the first season.

I wasn't insisting it would be. I know it doesn't happen overnight. However, our current coach has had more than a few days and nights to get everything corrected, and has failed.

The only problem with yalls way of thinking is, you have no way of knowing that whoever comes here will succeed. You can't know. You can hope, but not know. Some believe Dooley needs another year to succeed. We have no way of knowing if it will help. We can hope, but not know. So there you have it,we both have something in common. Trouble is we could both be right or wrong. I say Dooley deserves the chance to prove his continued improvement. But lets say it goes your way Dooley goes. Continuing getting your way. Gruden blesses Tennessee with his presense. He isn't the football god,he loses to all the same teams Dooley did. What now? We've bought out dooley and maybe his staffs contracts, paid gruden an lucritive salary with a six year contract with NO results. We've run outta money. Bought a pig in a poke we can't afford to get rid of

We will suck with next years schedule, but everyone is all gung-ho about playing Oregon. Myself, it too brutal of a schedule to expect much.

You can keep Dooley but nothing is going to improve if something isn't changed, mainly defense, so you're looking at no less than ousting Sunseri.

Not only did Oregon hand us our own ass in '10, but they've won every game they've played this year along with scoring NO LESS than 41 points per game. With our defense the way it is we'd be lucky to get out of the 4th quarter 60 points deep. Anybody "excited" about us playing Oregon is delusional.

This is not another Gruden thread, pleae do not try to turn it into one. I'm speaking in general for whichever new coach we get if we get one at all.

Yeah proven in the NFL

Exactly! IF it's that coach, yes.

You won't know that till they've been here a while. Proven winner somewhere else though perhaps depending on who is hired.

As a fan if you cannot see that this team is talented but poorly coached then there is no hope for you.

First year coach at A&M Kevin Summerlin has his team ranked, DD has had 3 years to build on and we still struggle.

Vandy, Ole Miss, Missouri and Arkansas have had more success than we have had to this point this year. Our schedule is always going to have Florida, GA, Bama and SC in the rotation at the same time each year. We have to have a coach who can go out and recruit against those teams and win some if we are going to beat them on the field. Dooley has proven he is not the guy who can do this.

I'd rather take a chance on someone that's won somewhere else than keep the guy that's not won anywhere.

If we keep Dooley, we will forever be crucified in conference play. The program dies for good, and we become Minnesota South.
