To me, the Florida Tennessee rivalry is going to not be the same in the new SEC setup. The SEC East stakes are over. In a lot of ways, it has been a series of misery and decline for Tennessee football. Florida did more to crash the program than anyone. Tennessee went out on a high note.

I kind of feel bad for Florida fans as they are going through their own dark ages now.

Farewell. I know we still will continue to see Florida often but I think the game will slowly morph into another SEC game on the schedule with talks of once was.

Our dark age was so long and horrible, I’ll never feel bad for one of the nastiest fanbases to us going through their own now.

I agree that this game will lose its impact with the new format though.

I will never feel bad for Florida fans as it relates to football specifically. They were the beneficiary of corrupt SEC shenanigans that often screwed other teams, had great teams and earned a lot of it, played dirty and had pathetically and embarrassingly hostile fans that would curse kids, throw urine, throw food and drinks on opposing fans and physically assault elderly people (which I witnessed them do as a youth). Sure, all programs habe that percentage of fans that are awful. Historically, though, my experience with Florida fans has not been good compared to other fanbases by and large.

I observed just such during the 93 game with Shuler at the helm. Swore I’d never go back to the swamp.

You are not exaggerating in your post.

The SEC deciding to screw over most of the league with these new permanent “rivals” was moronic.

While I’m not gonna lose sleep over the fact we get Vandy and Kentucky cupcakes going forward, it does suck we lose Florida annually.

Actually, Florida has returned to where they have always been for the past 100 years, except for a brief Spurrier/Meyer 20 year stretch of excellence - irrelevance.

If they and us are as good as we were in the 90s we will meet in the SECC on years we are not scheduled. If one or both are down it really will not matter. We went out on a high note and Heupel has been working with sanctions hanging over the program since he took over and has navigated that very well. The sanctions ends in 2026, Vol football is on the upswing IMO.

Well, I’m glad we got that monkey off our back last night especially since we don’t play them next year. I’m tired of people talking about how many years we lost down there.
Yes! Every frickin' sports writer, sportscaster, podcaster, ,etc., has had to inform us, every time in every article or show, how long it's been since we won down there. Like they had to inform us of this fact as if we didn't already know it. I've been tired of it, too, and now it's over!

Yes, I can’t stand Fowler as an announcer. He’s insufferable, I was gloating last night in his misery with us winning down there. I lost count of how many times they had to bring up that fact during the freaking broadcast.

Don't blame them, blame Tennessee for being so crappy and incompetent for so long. Makes you appreciate Heupel a little more as well.

What I liked is Tennessee came out and play with fire, focus and purpose. Our body language signaled a very focused and determined team. If we bring that first half next week for 4 quarters we will win! I think we will be very focused this week. We need to close this year and bowl season playing well. It will give us a lot of momentum heading into next season. If we can finish strong and retain our core team with our recruiting class coming in and a bunch of young players coming back the future looks bright. GBO

I don't feel bad for University of Florida football program or their fans. What goes up must come down. I'm sure they didn't feel bad for us during our dark years. A good slice of humble pie is good for a fan base from time to time IMHO. Sucks to be a gator!
