Year 6 same excuses

I’m sure this will be an unpopular take but I don’t care anymore. This saturday was the first time since Pruitt and Dooley years that I’ve felt completely numb and just beyond tired of the same lousy performances we’ve seen under Huepel. I don’t care that Texas was ranked #1, I am beyond tired of hearing that Faizon is 18 years old but most of all I’m beyond sick and tired of Huepels team always having an excuse. Last year it was the defense being abysmal, year before was Nico wasn’t any good and now It’s we have a freshman QB with an awful O-Line. I know that sounds negative but it’s just the reality at this point. Just because we aren’t as bad as the Dooley or Pruitt teams, doesn’t mean our fan base has to settle for mediocrity. There is no serious football program who contends for championships that has the red flags Huepel is showing and has BEEN showing. At some point, Tennessee fans have every right to be tired of being told to be patient. We’ve been patient. We’ve supported this program through some of the worst years imaginable, and we STILL show up every MF Saturday.
We spend the money.. we pack Neyland,
we support this program through EVERYTHING. And time and time again, we’re the ones left disappointed.

I question a lot of the roster decisions/ staff decisions every year and they seem to always be proven right on the field. We need an administration and coaching staff willing to do whatever it takes to win in today’s college football.
There is ZERO excuse for Tennessee to be in a position where we have to start a true freshman QB and then allow him to get sacked 10 times. I don’t care how good the other team’s defensive line is. Ten sacks is actually insulting to our fan base.

We are in an era where its results driven. Every year is a new year. Can’t bank on guys coming back or building for the future in this landscape. Our team shouldn’t have the holes in this roster that we do in year 6. We also shouldn’t lead the league or come close to leading the league in penalties every season. I’m just rambling at this point but I don’t know where we go from here…I’m just tired of the mediocre results
You said it. But saying year six is no longer valid.

You said you can’t count on players returning due to nil and portal. That’s true.

It also means it’s year one for all teams. Because coaches have to take a bunch of guys yearly who have not played together and make a competitive team.

This year, Tennessee had 53 new players they are trying to create a competitive team.

And you’re correct. Fans don’t care about anything but competing for championships

Not a change. Piling up numbers on lesser teams is not a sign of development.

And this whole “hasn’t thrown an interception” bit is getting tiresome. It isn’t the sign some of you think it to be.

It’s a sign he’s trying to take care of the football instead of turning it over, hardly a negative. However, most will agree that he needs to throw it away or give a receiver a chance at a ball instead of taking so many sacks. But he’s a true freshman playing in his 4th game against the top team in the country. I’ll give him a break for now and see how he develops instead of emotionally overreacting and posting how Heupel sucks and can’t develop QBs

It's still good for a true freshman QB to play at GT and against Texas and have no picks. Some of that against Texas is he didn't take chances, sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes it's not. Overall, it's a positive stat though.

Hopefully we get the anomaly.

If you don’t care then keep this 💩 to yourself.
This year 6 mess no longer applies with NIL.
Players come and go at the drop of $20.
Thank you!

My goodness. How do most of you know we didn't try for other players with NIL? Not EVERYONE (players and coaches) want to come to our great Tennessee program. Just look at the years after Fulmer. Coaches were not lining up. I wouldn't trade any of the Heupel years for the post Fulmer years. Our team still has things to fix, and that's unfortunate. I'm choosing to stay positive and see what happens.

Sun still comes up the same way regardless of outcomes such as yesterday. In the end, sports is entertainment and nothing more.

I'll hang up and listen for the "some of us don't settle for mediocrity" comments.

As everyone I am disappointed, but after their first drive, I thought it was going to be a blowout! If you told me preseason we would lose by 3 points with a chance to win with the final play, I would be OK. Texas is the #1 team in the country (For now). I do question our coaches clock management, or lack of at times. And knowing that the final play would probably be a "Hail Mary" into the endzone, WHY oh WHY were there only 1-2 UT players in the end zone? The writer is correct that our home record is not that good. Last year 3 of our 4 losses were at home, but maybe that is because 2 of the 3 losses were to eventual playoff teams. And OK was ranked.

That being said. No way in hell do I want to change coaches. WE know how that goes since Fulmer left. In addition if we change, DGG (probably a generational talent) would probably head to OSU and who knows who else would decommit.... Not to mention possibly losing our 2 QB's. No thanks! With DGG coming next year and our QB's gaining a year of experience, things will be much better especially since I think we will hit the football portal this year with intensity (Based on Basketball and Baseball results) that we lacked in previous years.

GO VOLS!!!
Who cares which recruits leave? Can’t run behind that line anyway. You people don’t understand the NIL and portal . U can’t build for the future just for them to leave for more money

I agree with you. He has had 6 years and each year it the same old crap. Look at Florida. Their new coach has turned them around in one year. Don't tell me we have to wait. Heupel has had plenty of time.

All good post and remarks in this forum, but to me what is disappointing is that we had a chance to at least tie or maybe even win a game that we all thought we would lose. I agree that the O line was bad and our freshman QB got harshly introduced into the sec, but when we get an onside kick which the odds are not in our favor, we see clock management issues along with the penalties that negate any chances we have to steal one we probably shouldn’t have. Every Saturday our fans show up, pack the stadium, and we can’t seem to steal one from defeat as was like the GA game last year. Yes, we broke the streak against Bama and FL, but damn, it would seem we could pull an Iowa against Michigan game one time. It’s been too long. I’ll alway support our team and try and never speak negatively on them or the coaching… that’s not my job, but we need a good win against an elite program soon. Just me!🤷‍♂️

I agree with you 100 percent! Heupel has mismanaged the roster from the beginning. Year six and we're dealing with a true freshman QB and a terrible offensive line. It will be interesting to see how we perform agains't Auburn and Golesh. If we lose, I'm betting Heupel's seat begins to get warm. I'm done with excuses.

I never pay attention to excuses. Excuses are for losers. My eyes tells me all I need to know.

Who Cares? I DO! Obviously, you have not watched DGG play. He will be a game changer and so will Brandon! We lost to the #1 defense in the country. Their offensive line allowed 6 sacks! So do they suck too! Name another team(That played Texas) that has not lost to Texas this year!;)

I read the first half of your post and like when I was in school, I can’t stay focused to read long anything but I get the gist. I think it’s realistic for us to expect 9–3 or 10–2 every year at Tennessee with the resources we have. I don’t care if anyone agrees or not. That’s just what I think and if you don’t agree, you are a complete and absolute moron even though I could be wrong and you might be right, but who knows because all these posts are just opinions and we are in reality sitting around a table ranting, and it will never matter, but it might, but possibly never, oh well who knows.
