Year 6 same excuses

I’m sure this will be an unpopular take but I don’t care anymore. This saturday was the first time since Pruitt and Dooley years that I’ve felt completely numb and just beyond tired of the same lousy performances we’ve seen under Huepel. I don’t care that Texas was ranked #1, I am beyond tired of hearing that Faizon is 18 years old but most of all I’m beyond sick and tired of Huepels team always having an excuse. Last year it was the defense being abysmal, year before was Nico wasn’t any good and now It’s we have a freshman QB with an awful O-Line. I know that sounds negative but it’s just the reality at this point. Just because we aren’t as bad as the Dooley or Pruitt teams, doesn’t mean our fan base has to settle for mediocrity. There is no serious football program who contends for championships that has the red flags Huepel is showing and has BEEN showing. At some point, Tennessee fans have every right to be tired of being told to be patient. We’ve been patient. We’ve supported this program through some of the worst years imaginable, and we STILL show up every MF Saturday.
We spend the money.. we pack Neyland,
we support this program through EVERYTHING. And time and time again, we’re the ones left disappointed.

I question a lot of the roster decisions/ staff decisions every year and they seem to always be proven right on the field. We need an administration and coaching staff willing to do whatever it takes to win in today’s college football.
There is ZERO excuse for Tennessee to be in a position where we have to start a true freshman QB and then allow him to get sacked 10 times. I don’t care how good the other team’s defensive line is. Ten sacks is actually insulting to our fan base.

We are in an era where its results driven. Every year is a new year. Can’t bank on guys coming back or building for the future in this landscape. Our team shouldn’t have the holes in this roster that we do in year 6. We also shouldn’t lead the league or come close to leading the league in penalties every season. I’m just rambling at this point but I don’t know where we go from here…I’m just tired of the mediocre results
If you don’t like it, root for another team. Pretty simple fix. Nothing you write on here is going to change a thing on the field.

So, we lost a game all of us had as a loss. As bad as we played, we still had a shot against the number 1 team, and what, you want him fired? What are you wanting exactly? Yeah, it’s disappointing to lose, but go look at the predictions threads, pretty much everyone had us losing 3-4 games this season, nobody predicted undefeated. You rather go back to these games being blowouts? Some of you are just wild in your thinking. That’s just how I feel.
Your post is the problem. In year 6, a home loss to Texas should NOT be a given.

If 2 head coaches for 2 different teams can’t get a highly touted QB to perform up to standards, the problem is the QB not the 2 coaches.

Aguilar fell in his lap? So Heupel gets no credit for Aguilar even though a lot of coaches get lucky with portal QBs.

So our HC is on par with whatever slop UCLA has at the moment. Probably so. Start with the evaluations. He was the guy CJH wanted.

Go ahead, credit him for Aguilar. So in 6 years he has produced 2 good options at QB. Not great.

We are 4 games into year 1 of Faizon and you are sick of hearing he is 18 years old. That's as far as I got becuase it is indicative of you childlike lack of patience.

Explain why in year 6 a so called QB savant is playing a true freshman at QB in the SEC?

Managing, recruiting, and developing the QB position is much different than ever before with all the changing rules. Faizon also isn't just a true freshman, he is a unanimous 5 star recruit. You only get 3 years of him. If he is as talented as we all think, he will be pretty good by the end of the season when it really matters. Plenty of time to improve and he hss already shown some good stuff to work with.

This loss hurts, no doubt, but it is short sighted to get mad at a freshman QB. The bigger issue was playcalling and going up against a top defense. While some concern is valif, Heupel's track record on offense is proven. The numbers show he is one of the best offensive minds the last 5 years. You can't win every game. Gotta have some more patience and let things play out.

Sumerall has fire. Confidence. Bravado.

His team is playing like his personality.

And so is ours. I think that is the real answer.

In 21 and 22, Josh was a MFer, but has softened along the way.
Why do people forget this?

I don’t think my post lost the game . To get to your point, 6+ years ago, we’d be blown out in that game. I don’t like losing, but let’s play. Who you hiring? Who are you bringing in to replace Heupel? And that goes for anyone, y’all act like coaches are lined up waiting for Tennessee to call. Maybe you’re too young, or weren’t around the last 3 times we needed a coach, but nobody wanted it, except the losers we ended up with before who we have now. That’s my whole point, everyone saying year 6 and it’s not acceptable, I get it, but you’re crazy if you think we’re firing him, and some top coach is coming. We’d end up with another Dooley or Pruitt, and getting blown out half our games.

Sumrall is 4 weeks into coaching in the SEC. Part of our confidence came from employing a scheme that defenses in the SEC had yet to adjust to. As more tape of our scheme came out and a variety of Defensive cooridinators were able to try different ways to stop us, the scheme lost some of it's effectiveness.

So while Sumrall is the new shiny toy on the block, let's not fall for the trap of trying to change everything to emulatr him. Give it some time and see if what he is doing has staying power.

Idk what i’m “wanting” just sick of the same **** every year. Most will still say the freshman. It’s a loser mentality to look for excuses for losing before you actually do. The freshman QB and new DC was going to the be the excuse for losing all along. They’ll have a new excuse next season. Some of our fan base is simply thinking like losers. These same people I remember defending Butch and Pruitt up until the very end

When someone shows you who they are, you better believe them. My feeling is this is what Huepel is unfortunately, a mediocre coach
Bingo! The “at least we don’t have butch or pruitt” fans were the same ppl defending them during their tenure and are to loyally blind to see that the HC is the main reason of the problem on offense yesterday.

So we lose a home game to the #1 team in the country (allegedly) by 3 points, and we need a new coach? God help us if we lose to Bama and LSU at home. Our young QB just completed his 4th game, how bout we turn our attention to beating Auburn at home this Saturday. Go Vols!

He isn’t that good at evaluating QBs if we’re being honest. He chose Milton over Hooker, Nico wasn’t good, lucked into Aguilar being the only QB available. Faizon is young so we’ll see but it’s not off to the best start
Doug Matthews heaped praise on Brandon this morning. Said he reminds him of Tony Robinson. He's been around the program a long time and doesn't pump sunshine when it's raining

Can someone explain how Sumrall has a better QB in year 1 than Heupel has in year 6.
Don’t explain just the QB. Explain the whole team.
Florida is fully back as bad as I hate to admit it.
In year 1 of a new coach. Florida beats Texas btw

That would be 2 years in a row. No one has a higher ceiling but spends more time near the floor than Texas. This excitement of losing by 3 to them is nonsense.

Milton threw for 2800 yards, 20 TDs, 5 pics and ran for 300 yards while going 10-3 and a 147 rating his senior year. Heupel gets no credit?

No. CJH deserves more criticism for hanging onto the pipe dream for so long. No wins over teams that finished ranked and losses that were butt whoopings.

So you’re changing your criticism from can’t develop QBs to wins against ranked teams. That’s a worthy debate, but the notion that he can’t develop QBs with Hooker, Milton, Aguilar, and a true freshman that hasn’t thrown a pic through 4 games is nonsense. Nico isn’t the first 5 star bust in college football and if that’s Huepel’s big miss in 6 years then I’d say he’s doing pretty well with QBs

A lot of people on here are still riding that stagnant high from beating Bama in 2022 and 2024, and are failing to realize the reality we currently find ourselves in. 0 and 7 against the last 7 ranked opponents indicts the coaching staff.

Heupel prides himself as an offensive genius, but his offense has been figured out.

Credit where credit is due though, Jim Knowles was a home run hire. One can only hope that he makes changes on the offensive side of the ball after this season.

Not a change. Piling up numbers on lesser teams is not a sign of development.

And this whole “hasn’t thrown an interception” bit is getting tiresome. It isn’t the sign some of you think it to be.
