I think Dan Wetzel's is one of the Internet's best sportswriters. This one is another gem:

Stop superconferences, start a football playoff - College Football - Rivals.com

Wetzel always does a great job of stomping on all of the dumb reasons for not having a college football playoff. I could start pasting quotes, but it's better to just read the article.

His premise this time is that the two chief revenue streams are March Madness and conference TV contracts. The third possible major stream, college football's postseason, is outsourced, and thus the schools are leaving a huge revenue stream basically untapped. Why lose money on third-party bowl games when you can make money on a playoff? Wetzel views conference realignment as a way to replace the potential playoff money that schools are missing out on. That is, since the schools don't have a big football playoff paycheck coming in, they are instead trying to make more on their conference TV contracts, and they're accomplishing that with moves like Cuse and Pitt switching leagues. The effect will be the ACC's TV deal going up at the expense of the Big East.

4 Super conferences could be the first step towards the abolishment of the current NCAA ruling body and regime.

We'll see how long the bowls can stay alive in this always evolving money grab in college athletics.

Bowls have almost always been inefficient from a competition standpoint, and guys like Wetzel continue to show how inefficient they are from a financial standpoint.

That they've survived this long has amazed me. I can't really explain it...some bowl execs must have incriminating photos of university presidents and conference commissioners.

Summed up what I was going to say.
