I just hate to admit it, humble as I am, but all the men in my family are breeders, and, as a result I've got lots of nieces and nephews.
On the cool side, when it comes to getting Xmas gifts most of them like what is now called "classic" rock- which covers everything from Gram Parsons to Hendrix.
On the embarrassingly uncool side, apparently there is lots of stuff between Parsons and Hendrix that, if you give it as a present, will earn you a, "Oh, lord, I hope I never become that old and lame" look from your nieces and nephews.
This year, I managed 3 & 1 (though the one flub stung). I was cool uncle for the "Band of Gypsies" Hendrix album, "Live at Leeds", and the Jeff Beck & Jan Hammer live album, but was clearly a pointy-headed geek over Joe Jackson's "Look Sharp"
I tried to apologize to the "Look Sharp" niece, who (a boy band fan) was less than pleased, and her older sister (damn her) piped in to point out that KMart sells ITune Gift Cards in all sizes.
Normally, I really like the fact that big sis is a smartass.
How'd you do on your own personal "suck up to the kids" cool-meter this Christmas?
