There’s something similar that’s going around that’s mistakingly called by the same name. It’s coming in from other countries and the symptoms are a little more extreme and do cause itching of the hands and feet. My kids had it and we were told by a few different doctors that what they are starting to see (and what these football players might have) was not in this country 10 years ago. It’s very rare to this point, but we will start seeing more of it.

Doubtful, likely is still viral and these things typically are more of a nuisance as opposed to serious. Should be cleared in a week or so.
