As the season slowly approaches, i get more and more nervous. I am not confident with who we have at WR, and if WRs can't break Man-2-Man jam coverage, that will not be good for our offense. Has anyone heard or gotten some inside info on on WRs? Are our veterans Wide-outs stepping up? (Brisco,Talor,Rodger), Im not confident in these 3, without any good info to prove otherwise.
-----I believe we are gonna have to rely on our freshman a bunch (Paige,Vinson,Jones, and maybe Berry). Ive seen tapes on all these kids, and i believe they are all capable of steal a job from the Veterans, if we don't see vast improvement from our WRs.
-----Also, on Volquest there is an article on our WRs, if anyone has a scription please break it down and share.

Why did you post this in the recruiting forum?

This is a topic that has been brought up a million times in the last couple of months. We all just have to wait and see exactly how good Kenny O'Neal, Brent Vinson, and Gerald Jones are. They aren't even on campus yet, so obviously no one knows very much.

Kenny O'Neal and Vinson are probably ready to play at UT after they learn routes and the system. They should be ready by Cal. Jones and Paige haven't played anyone except HS players. You can't judge their tapes on that because they were some of the most talented players in the country. Berry will not see the offense as much as you think. Only occasionally. I don't think he will even see the field on offense next year because we will be relying on him to play DB.

Gerald Jones played against better competition in Oklahoma than Vinson did at Hargrave.

I'd be shocked if Ahmad Paige saw the field this year...from a physical standpoint, he's going to need a year in the weight room before he's equipped to take a hit from SEC linebackers.

While Paige will need a year to bulk up, I think once he does that, he has the measurables to be special.

I agree that Gerald played against better competition. We played a very difficult schedule this year.. I believe that Gerald is physically and mentally mature enough to step in and contribute in big ways..

One thing is for sure. He will have every opportunity to contribute. It should be a fantastic situation for him.

Why hasn't Hancock been mentioned in any of these forums? He is without a doubt our best returning reciever (not that that's saying much)

He isn't without a doubt the best. Austin Rogers, Lucas Taylor, and Josh Briscoe all have more experience. Hancock has been good in practice, but that doesn't always translate to success in real games.

He couldn't possibly be worse than the way Lucas Taylor and Josh Briscoe have played in games so far. He was downright better than everyone else at the O&W game as well.

My mind says sarcasm, but my heart says it could happen. Actually, no, its not going to happen, but I would like to see Taylor do well.

Please. Slick Shelley had more receptions in that game than anyone you've mentioned. I guess he should be top dog.

I'd also be interested to see if you can recall a specific instance in which Lucas Taylor did something bad as a WR in an actual game.

The problem is he does very little as a WR in games. He was a decent 4th WR last year. Maybe he is best as a 4th WR.

I'm not surprised. Why throw it to a sophomore when you have two guys that led the nation in TDs at one point (Meachem and Swain)? For your third option you have a senior that's seen playing time all four years. That's just Ainge being smart and getting the ball to his leaders. It wasn't like there was anyone else getting yards and catches besides those big three. In fact, I think Taylor had about the same stats as the rest of the receivers combined.

But even when he was given opportunities, he didn't maximize them. There is a reason that he gets very few looks. He is a smallish WR with little top end speed. He has good moves but fumbles it too much.

He has never fumbled while playing wide receiver.

He fumbled during the OnW game on like the 2nd play. I know it isn't the same, but it is still a game atmosphere against a 1st team defense. Either way, carrying the ball is carrying the ball. The only reason he hasn't fumbled much at WR is because he hasn't had the chance to like he has on special teams.
