I have a serious question.

Why do so many people wear clothing to games now that is not TN orange? I am not speaking about people who had TN orange that faded to another color, I am speaking about people wearing Auburn or Florida or even Texas Orange to our games.

When I was growing up, wearing the wrong orange was mocked by all your peers until you went and bought some real UT apparel or at least knock off stuff that was the right color. Nowadays walking into the game I see the wrong color orange all over the place.

Perhaps they have children to feed and cannot afford to buy clothing after purchasing a ticket.
Perhaps they just don't give a d--mn what you or I or anyone else thinks
Maybe they just want to be different.
Maybe it's their lucky (albiet wrong color) shirt.
Maybe they simply wear what they want to wear...

And the number one answer is...next time you see one at a game, just ask him.

and what's with all these "fans" who bring those knock off shakers to the games? Buy the real thing at the bookstore or GTFO.

One of your shortest threads ever. I gotta admit, growing up going to the games, the guy with the navy blue UT hat and Auburn color polo that sat in front of me always bugged me!

Maybe when UT starts winning football games again, sales for the "wrong" color of orange will plummet, sending demand for UT orange through the roof!

But seriously...who cares?

The credited response would be that UT orange is a specific dye number registered to the university and therefore only UT licensed merchandise is the true UT orange. Therefore, a lot of the other gear has shades that attempt to get close to UT orange but cannot always get that close.

When 100,000 people are wearing orange, the shades blend in.

i was unaware that there is an 'official' orange. when i was a kid (eisenhower was president), tennessee 'orange' was what i would call yellow (it was supposed to match the daisys which reputedly grew in profusion on the hill.) nobody dared call it by that name though. in the years since, as tradition has faded and t.v. presence has become the be-all, end-all, the color has subtly shifted to classical orange. for years, i thought texas colors were red and white, but that too has shifted toward ordinary orange (burnt or not). whatever anyone wears and calls orange isn't going to give me heartburn as long as they can holler 'go vols!'

I wore a bright orange Tennessee shirt to my friends (uga fan) house one day in elementary school. Turns out they were going to uga fan day in Athens that day.

I was like 8 at the time but I'm pretty sure I got more than enough 'what the hell you doin here boy' comments.

I think I got Quincy carter's autograph that day lol

Also, another tidbit, if you google image search "PMS 151" the results are varying shades of orange.

Even the internetz can't get it right.
