You're the one comparing that with PM being a LB coach.

4 years in our WRs know the process that CBJ is expecting from them. The position coach is the guy that builds on what has been established by impacting the mental aspect of preparation and game day.

When a WR can get into the mind of a DB and use that knowledge against them, good things can happen.

Larry was interim HC at the U so I would think his knowledge and name recognition in Miami area is impressive. Vols have been signing some terrific athletes - Byrd, etc. from Florida so this is a pipeline that can pay big dividends. Brandon Johnson - others look far better in SEC action than their rankings. I would rather hit Florida hard than worry about Memphis. Virginia also loaded with talent in Tidewater area. Saw where Gerald Brown will take QC position with Vols - that is adding some serious experience to offense.

I used to PM coaching LBs example to illustrate the absurdity of your sincere thought that the #1 option for our new WR coach is a DB coach, Terry Fair. It's ridiculous.

And it's not "4 years into the process" for any WR who hasn't been in the program that long. We have primarily sophomores and freshmen at this point, and a good solid WR coach is desperately needed to technique, philosophy and yes, Jones' offense.

Could a DB coach come over into the WR room every once in awhile to discuss how he teaches defending WRs and could that occasionally be helpful?.....sure. But it's absurd to suggest that a DB coach should be named our next WR coach.

I like the Gerald Brown hire. He has solid NFL experience. Not sure about Kippy but, he has a boat load of experience. I would think our WRs would improve with two NFL level coaches working them. Thoughts?

Kippy is solid enough to be our Head Coach. He is unequaled as a receivers coach. He would be a great addition to our staff but i can't believe he would take the job.

I would love to have Kippy as well, but being 61 and coaching at a lot of destinations in his career, he may enjoy the time relaxing and staying put. However, I know coaching is in your blood and he may miss it. I wonder how he would recruit compared to Beard? I guess he could rely on his vast NFL experience.

From getting them to second guess their technique to creating the confidence that they know what the DB is thinking. As important as it is to not have tells it's just as important to recognize tells of the DB.

Know your competition. Get the DB to do what you want them to do.

I keep seeing you type this, yes he coached high school way back when in Tampa. But he has ties in all of Florida not just one town. He's been in South Florida since 2006 til he come here in 2016.

Actually, he clearly would. Makes zero sense, but he would. In other news, he'd also have his qb coach handle the DL, his kicking coach teach running backs and his offensive coordinator handle defensive quality control.

QB is dealing with all 11 on the defense a WR often times will be on an island 1 on 1 against the same DB all game long making it more personal. To be able to manipulate that particular defender would create an edge that would be beneficial to the WR.

And please try to stay focused here.....I stated in an earlier post that a DB coach could occasionally visit the WR room or give pointers on the practice field in order to give the WRs some pointers from a defensive perspective....solely supplemental stuff. But there's zero chance any head coach is gonna hire a DB coach to coach WRs.
