Sorry to throw another name into this mess (and if I've missed it already being mentioned I apologize), but to me, Greg Schiano seems like he could be a viable option. He has college experience and has made Rutgers into a good/respectable program. He is young and has shown he can recruit tough areas. getting players to go to New Jersey is no small feat, especially since the Big East is down of late.

Not dead-set against him, but what's his record since he arrived in....wherever, NJ?

No thanks to Chopping wood! those players bought in for awhile but now its gone back to normal Rutgers since Ray Rice left. he should have bolted to Miami when offered now he may not get another big offer especially since he was rumored to replace Joe Pa at Penn State but it appears Paterno is going to outlive Schiano

2006 Eddie Robinson/FWAA National Coach of the Year
• 2006 The Home Depot National Coach of the Year
• 2006 Walter Camp Football Foundation National Coach of the Year
• 2006 Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year
• 2006 George Munger (Maxwell Club) National Coach of the Year
• 2006 American Football Monthly National Coach of the Year
• 2006 BIG EAST Coach of the Year

Entering his eighth season as head coach of the Rutgers football program, Greg Schiano has created what he started out to accomplish - build one of the top programs in the nation on a rock solid foundation - both on the field and in the classroom. Still, the ultimate goal remains the same for Schiano since the day he accepted the position on Dec. 1, 2000 - to win the National Championship.

The longest-tenured coach in the BIG EAST, Schiano has guided the Scarlet Knights to new heights throughout his career “On the Banks” – including consecutive bowl victories for the first time in school history last January with Rutgers’ 52-30 victory over Ball State in the International Bowl.

The Scarlet Knights have played in a bowl for three consecutive seasons – another first in school history and just one of three BIG EAST programs to do so.

The Scarlet Knights are one of 34 teams to play in three consecutive bowls. Among BCS members, Rutgers is one of 25 schools to play in three straight bowl games.

Before Schiano’s arrival at Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights played in one bowl game in 131 seasons of football.

Hes 42-51 since 2000. They have 3 straight winning seasons and 3 straight bowl appearances. Miami had a great D when he was there but I think we could do better.

That is my concern too. I used to have season tickets to the Terps when Fridge had em rollin. Then all of a sudden...splat. He had a nice group of players that played great together for 3 years and once they left it was all over. I could see sumthin similar at Rutgers.

schiano has done great things for a program like rutgers. that being said, i think there are way better options out there.

too much of a Yankee for the good ole boys making the decisions........Pearl was a stretch, only bc/ our bball program sucked........not that football is any good either, but the good ole boys care alot more about the football program, and getting a good ole boy coach is still the word on the streets.............

He turned down Miami AND Michigan.... Definitely appears to be a spit and shake deal with Penn St. Unless he blows it with more seasons like current!

Schinao had one good fluke year. He should have taken the miami job when offered--now he's stuck in a dead end program again.

Schiano reminds me of another yankee with a crappy offense--Clawson. No Thanks.

Clawson doesnt have a crappy offense... it worked in D-2 just fine.. he just didn't make the right adjustments to make it work in the SEC..

He will be a great coach one day...

Schiano= Penn State.

Unless of course Peterno lives to be 120 as analysts are projecting at this point.
