With all the negativity surrounding the program right now there's no doubt that the reason for the irate fans right now is that one, the majority feel Phil lacks the in-game playcalling aggressiveness that we see from our rivals, and the main reason is that Phil doesnt put the most talented players on the field. So if this the main reason people are calling for his job would it be safe to assume that Tajh Boyd would be the starting QB next season given that he looks solid in the preseason. Will fans even give Stephens/Crompton a chance to start the first game of 2009? thoughts?

If a coach is making decisions to pacify fans, he should be fired immediately.

The backup QB is always the most popular guy in town.

Ya, it is amazing isn't it? There is something about human psychology that makes the next guy in line to be the "real" one. Last year, Crompton was the man and everyone wanted him to get to start. This year, he's the dog and everyone wanted Stephens. I wouldn't be surprised if things started going south and Coleman started being called for.

I'm still trying to find out who this "everyone" that was calling for Crompton consists of.

Alright, "everyone" was a stretch. During games, one would hear calls to put Crompton in after an incomplete pass or failed 3rd down conversion. "Why don't they play Crompton?" was uttered when ever the injuries Ainge was playign through were mentioned. The idea that Crompton should be playing came up a lot in the first part of the season.

I think Phil has many more reasons to be fired as of right now, pacifying may be the only thing left for Phil to do in order to receive the support a coach needs from his the fans.

Coaches need wins, not the validation of a bunch of people wearing orange overalls.

So what you're suggesting is that Fulmer should consider starting a guy next year who is currently in highschool based on the fact that he is a 4* prospect according to Rivals? (since that is all we have to go on right now)

I hate to be jerk but I seem to remember that the last 4* QB(per Rivals) that we started didn't work out too well...

Maybe we should see if Stephens continues to progress, see if Fulmer is still around next year, see if Boyd commits to us, and see if Boyd can make an immediate mental/physical transition to the division one level before we annoint him the most talented QB on our team and next years starter

Those people wearing orange overalls hepl pay the bills, not to mention the boosters who basically threatened hamilton that they would cease donations if wins dont come soon which is part of that 80/20 rule.. Hamilton doesnt want to lose 80% of his profit so if those boosters want boyd to start then boyd will start.. ofcourse if boyd impresses in the preseason and we still have the same situation we have now at QB

The ones in orange overalls are not paying the bills, and are not the ones he needs to be worried about.

when the boosters start making personnel decisions it's time to just tear down Neyland.

Theyre not making personnel decisions, they just have a loud, influential opinion that Hamilton listens to. And it casues him to tell the media that he "isnt afraid to make a coaching change" when things are going as they are right now. Any coach who is the HC of UT that repeatedly gets blown out by Florida and Alabama will start to lose the control of the decisions he wants to make.. This could all simmer down after saturday night, but not likely

So you dont think there are enough fans that are Anti-Fulmer right now that it reaches every national media in the country? Or enough to make Hamilton bring up a coaching change? Or maybe not enough to hear loud roars of "Boos" in a 100,000+ stadium on national television against a very very bitter rival that even caused us to lose our top QB recruit?

Boosters only end up with that kind of power in programs with incompetent losers as coaches.

-any AD that tells his coach who to play in the game should be fired
-any coach who listens to the AD on who to play should be fired
-any booster who thinks his money gives him the right to make personnel decisions should have his check returned to him

Correct on all three fronts. Jim Haslam has contributed and done more for UT than any other booster. I can assure you he doesn't think he has any business deciding who the quarterback at UT is.

Not saying that i agree with what is going on with the boosters and our AD, coach, personnel, etc. but i simply started this thread because this is what's happening. Our boosters are having more of an impact on our program because our coach is a loser.

please tell me where you heard the boosters are trying to change the lineup. Boosters telling the AD that they are not getting a good return on their investment is a completely different thing.
