Would Nike/ UA sponsorship help us with recruits?

I know Tennessee is an 'Adidas school', but with the New Coaches (most of which come from NIKE Schools) what are the chances we can drop the stripes and get with NIKE or Under Armour?? These days image and style is big with not only with society but also these top recruits! Whether your Brand loyal or not or agree with it or not, the swoosh on the jersey is a selling point! These kids are constantly reminded of the 'Brand' involvement (just look at the big UA logo on their helmets this Sunday)! One of the biggest 'offseason' draws for Top talent is the NIKE Elite Combines/ Camps! Every year, about one of every three NIKE Camp attendees signed with a D-I college, and this past year, 47% of high school seniors who signed a football scholarship attended a NIKE Camp. And all the TOP Universities ARE NIKE schools (8 of the Top 10 currently)! I personally would love to go back to the NIKE Uniform days, but would settle with UA! I read that Adidas is signed through June of 2010, and I can only hope that we change that!

And although I've focused on football recruits it would be an even BIGGER help for Coach Pearl's Basketball department come signing day!

So if anyone can hit up Phil Knight, tell him we need J Jenkins, M Brown, R Carroll, S Montgomery, and a BIG ORANGE SWOOSH under our Christmas tree in '09!

Those Nike uniform days you want back never existed.

I personally don't care, I like both Adidas and Nike, but I know from personal experience that Adidas football cleats suck.

I don't think I care either way - as long as we don't get some overwhelming logo crap on our jerseys and bad designs... like who made that new UK basketball jerseys? Whatever is best for the program.

I know some of our jersies used to be sports belle. Some of the 90's were, i'm pretty sure.

You sure? I know for sure we used to wear Nike shoes. I thought we also had the jerseys for awhile in the mid-90s.

to add to that, they were making the Adidas jerseys UT wears now, but I'm not sure they still are after they had a fire earlier this year. FYI, they were based out of Knoxville.

keep adidas...nike would go and screw around with our jerseys like they did with unc's basketball jerseys...ya know, the one with the "NC" on the front. That year they went 8-20, godspeed to Matt Doherty.

I like a traditional uniform, and Tennessee is a traditional powerhouse...we're not a sideshow like Oregon and Maryland who screw with their uniforms constantly.

I don't see a whole lot of correlation between a Nike camp and getting recruits...I think the school's tradition, facilities, and coaching staff are about 100 times more important

It really would. Adidas cleats feel so much heavier than Nikes. Also Nike looks so much better. Our team would look better and faster in Nike equipment. Can you imagine how much faster Berry would look and be in some Nike Vapors?

Alabama, USC, Penn State, and Oklahoma wear Nike and they're traditional.

I've said it before to no avail, but I think going with Nike and getting a Nike Camp at UT would be a free recruiting visit for a large number of potential recruits. It would be a huge benefit for UT.

I've never looked at someone in Nike and thought, wow they look so much faster than that guy in Adidas.

Nike has many, many teams under contract that have maintained their traditional unis. Its not like the companies send the schools the uniforms and the schools have to deal with it.
