Was just listening to the radio and heard mention of the ole grass eater. I remember a lot of folks wanted Les to be the head coach over other candidates.

Does anyone think Les would have led this team to wins over WVU, UF or both?

Disclaimer: this is not a slight in Coach Pruitt at all.

Doubt it, team might have been better prepared and the games more competitive.

I think he would have a slightly different and better team. He would have had much more time to work on recruiting in December. That said, I don't think that means UT should have hired him over Pruitt. Pruitt's younger and he may well work out for a long time.

I don't think it's really true that a "lot of fans" wanted Les Miles. Rather, a lot of fans, and I really do think it's a lot, wanted a great proven coach. when you start looking at people who've won it all, there just aren't many. Becoming proven makes you old. Les was the youngest unemployed national title winner, so obviously you have to look at Les and say this is what a great proven coach looks like, and here he is. If you don't want Les, then maybe you don't want a proven coach after all.

I always say Johnny Majors was the perfect coach candidate in 1976. That is what the perfect candidate looks like.

A month more of recruiting would not have helped us...imo.

36 months of recruiting?! Perhaps...

Coaches who would definitely have a better record with this team:

- General Neyland.
- Nick Saban.
- Bill Belichek.
- John Gruden.
- Mike Leach.
- Jesus.
- D4H.
- Coach Fulmer.
- Les Miles.
- (fill in the blank) Stoops.
- Lane Kiffin.
- Denzel Washington.
- Craig T. Nelson.
- Tee Martin.
- Charlie Strong.
- Charlie Brown.

There...now we can be friends again.

Go Vols.

Dumb post of the year. Which team would one of these miracle workers have beaten?

No close games yet. Not GA either. No coach would be doing better or worse, including Butch. Plenty other coaches would have more buzz around them and the recruiting would be in a higher gear though.

Pruitt was the better pick for UT long term, and I wanted Les badly.

Pruitt has the better overall skill set we need for building a program, but he has things to learn as a new HC.

Les would have been a better short term pick IMO for getting a team believing. That has always been his greatest strength.

Pruitt will do aight I think..he just needs his own recruits and not ones who duped recruiting services and the previous HC.
