Is RB the easiest position for a Frosh to come in and contribute the quickest? I was wondering what Pos you guys thought were the easiest for incoming Frosh.

Also how many Frosh do you all predict starting or contributing next year? I know we haven't seen them yet except on HS films.

I think atleast 7 Frosh will contribute.

Oku (if eligable)
Brown*
Teague
Hughes*
Jackson
Myles
Richardson*

*I think will play more than any

What are you guys thinkin?

To your first question, Yes it is the easiest to perform coming from HS to college and then from college to the pros.

I'd say the premier freshman from this past year in the SEC were both WRs (Green from UGA and Jones from Bama). I still think skill positions are the places where freshman are more likely to contribute.

You are right about the running back being the easiest position to contribute as a freshman, I also think we need to look out for Williams at running back, the coaches are really high on him and he seems to be working really hard.

Since your best athletes usually play WR, RB, or QB....RB is probably the easiest.

However Safety and CB can rank up there as well.

Rivals100 RB's freshmen stats

2008
1)Darrell Scott: 87 rush 343 yds 1 TD(2nd string to another freshman RB)

2)Jermie Calhoun: No stats (Chris Brown Demarco Murray had more experience)

3)Ryan Williams: No stats (Beat out by another freshman RB and a JR RB)

4)DeSean Hales: No stats (No RB did well for Texas last season)

5)Jonas Gray: 21 rush 90 yds 0 TD (4th string to 3 highly touted RB's with more experience)

6)Cyrus Gray: 75 rush 363 yds 1 TD(2nd string to JR with 45 more yards than him)

7)Ryan Bass: 26 rush 120 yds 0 TD(4th string to 2 JR's and a SR)

8)De'Anthony Curtis: 23 rush 76 yds 0 TD(3rd string to JR with 1000 yds and another frosh)

2007
1)Joe McKnight: 94 rush 540 yds 3 TD(3rd string to SR and another highly touted RB)

2)Noel Devine: 73 rush 627 yds 6 TD(2nd string to JR Steve Slaton)

3)Marc Tyler: Did not play(very crowded backfield)

4)Enrique Davis: prep school and now at Ole Miss

5)John Clay: Did not play(PJ Hill was the starter)

6)Brandon Saine: 60 rush 267 yds 2 TD(3rd string to both of the Wells)

7)Armando Allen: 86 rush 348 yds 0 TD(2nd string to highly touted RB)

8)Lennon Creer: 36 rush 214 yds 1 TD(3rd string to Foster and Hardesty)

9)Robert Hughes: 53 rush 294 yds 4 TD(3rd string to James Aldridge and Armando Allen)

10)Caleb King: Did not play (crowded backfield)

This was beginning to take to much time, but Chris Wells is 2006 #1 RB and #1 Overall. Look what he has done.

Easiest and most likely are kind of different. There are more RB's and WR's that come in with college ready bodies. None of the defensive positions have any more to learn than those two positions. OL is probably the most difficult for a Fr both in terms of the physical and mental parts... nonetheless, I would give Schofield about a 50% chance of starting at RT. It is a position of need and the coaches said he was the best OL they looked at this year... and they looked at M Moses, M Hall, Phillips, and several others. Schofield is supposed to be a pretty bright kid too if I remember right.

Walls, Jackson, Nuke, Hughes, and Brown would be the others I'd expect to get significant time. I don't really think Teague (who I like alot) or Oku will be ready. Myles could be but I'd put his prospects lower than the others I mentioned.

I think we will see a lot of freshman play this year. Walls, Askew, Edwards, and Oliver(returner) in addition to who was mentioned plus maybe a few others such as Schofield, Nelson, and Green. I think Kiffin will put the athletes on the field

I would think that CB would be the easiest. No schemes to learn, just cover the guy you're told to cover. Hell a good CB doesn't even need to go into the huddle.

I also think Myles and Jackson couls see a lot of PT but I am pulling for Morley and Vinson to stay out of trouble and us be nasty in the secondary. Askew may be a big player too because of our need at LB

CB is difficult because most HS opponents don't run option routes, double moves, or the complexity seen in college. Some guys like Vinson have the natural quickness to just react but for most it takes time. If he could get the mental part down, he'd be incredible.

And if he could learn how to catch, he would be a good WR.
