Depends on your definition of big, is it as suprising? Not really considering this is only the second search we have had in recent memory in which it wasnt pick a guy to offer and go through the list. Now with Fulmer and Pruitt in charge it seems they are going through actual hiring processes and picking the best candidate. Now having said that it would lead me to believe the biggest hire has been Fulmer as he has brought some semblance of normalcy to the runnings of the program.

He has multiple people on his staff with more head coaching experience than himself, he doesnt get intimidated like that, that's not in his mentality or in the mentality of the guys he wants to bring in.

There doesn't seem to be a downside for Pruitt with this hire. If Freeze does extremely well, then Pruitt will get credit for that. If Pruitt is concerned about someone taking his job at this point, then he doesn't need to be a HC. This would be a big feather in the cap for Pruitt and it will give Pruitt a chance to gain perspective from a great coach. I really can't see a downside.

Honestly, if it's not Freeze, I'm going to be worried about Pruitt's decision making. This could really make him as a coach. Not pulling the trigger on a big hire like this is such a Butch Jones move.

Big coaches make big hires. The HC is CEO of his football team, offensive production doesn't equal what all a head coach does.

No what it means is that we have much more confidence that the offense could be great while Pruitt would have more time with the defense and it should improve as well. He is a proven OC that is what it means.

Yes, simply because CHF is already a proven HC in the SEC. CJP is not...yet. Shouldn't be a problem if due diligence is done before the hire. Due diligence doesn't just consist of the vetting process. It includes clearly defining CHF's role.
