For all his overall athletic dept mistakes, DD wanted the football team on top. Would he have let it go this long? I'm sure he took pride in bringing in CPF and seeing him win it all in 98 but I can't believe we would be at this place if he was AD. We also wouldn't have Pearl but that's another discussion.

Just something I was thinking about while mowing the yard this morning.

I think he would have to cut CPF loose, like you said if BP was not at UT.

I don't know all the fine details about Doug Dickey's do's and don'ts while he was at tennessee. But to answer your question. NO

Phil would have more than likely found himself unemployeed in the early 2000's.

Bill Battle was cut loose after a 6-5 season to make way for Johnny Majors. Battle never had a losing season at UT.
