I just wonder if Butch Jones, the way he develops talent, would still be here if not for having Josh Dobbs at QB?

With Dobbs departed to the NFL, Tennessee struggles to find any consistency at QB..... dejavu , Whorley, Peterman ect

I get the frustrations with QB problems, but we have to remember that yes QD has been in the system this is his first year starting. JG is only a freshman so we also have to cut him some slack.

I think JG is a really good fit for this offense, he just needs some more time.

I said this last year. Without Josh Dobbs, we don't make a bowl game the last 3 years.

We would 5-7 every year. And Butch would have been fired last year.

Dobbs carried this program on his shoulders the last 3 years.

Josh Dobbs would have failed in any other system. Catch 22

It's a completely false premise. Take the starting QB out of most programs and you lose an extra 1-3 games.

Somewhat. This offense looks completely different with a guy running it that's been here 2 full years, post Dobbs.

I said last year when Dobbs was a Senior, that Butch Jones offense is PATHETIC, and just look at how many times Dobbs bailed the offense out by the horrific play calling and then he had to scramble around to make things happen..... BTW, Mike Debord is putting up crazy numbers in Indiana..... (yep, I said INDIANA)

I don't know, but he is here. Would Coach K have won his first national title without Christian Laettner? Pretty sure he wouldn't have, but he did.

No, but that's hardly a fair argument against Butch. What would any coach be without their star player?

...and he still didn't carry it all that far. Josh Dobbs's best win as a Tennessee Volunteer was beating Florida last year at home as a slight favorite.

Depends on the program. I'd bet that Alabama still would have been undefeated going into the title game last year with Blake Barnett or Cooper Bateman as QB.

It's a completely false premise. Take the starting QB out of most programs and you lose an extra 1-3 games.

Majors won SEC titles with different QB's. Phil won titles with 2 different QB's and went with 4 different QB's. Saban and Meyet have won NC's with 3 different QB's. Chip Kelly won conference championships freshman qb's and rb's. Cutcliffe has been successful with about every QB he s every coached.

Good coaches win with different players viz player development and by playing to their strengths.
