I was at the game in 1986. The Vols were down 42-14 at halftime. Bobby Humphrey rushed for over 200 yards that day.

The Vols finished ranked #4 in 1985 and started the preseason of 1986 ranked #10.... actually climbing to #8 in the first week. Then the Vols were shocked by Miss State (23-27), destroyed by Auburn (8-34), upset by hapless Army (21-25), the loss to Alabama (28-56), and capped off by a missed field goal against Ga Tech (13-14). The 2-5 start was a shock since the core of the team that beat Miami in the Sugar Bowl returned.

It was a shock to me because I thought our defense would be worth a damn. They returned most of the starters from the '85 team....The Alabama game in '86 was on the D.....Bama ran the same play over and over - toss sweep left, toss sweep right....and it was good for 10-15 yards the whole game.

Dont forget those orange shoes. We have not sported those since.

I consider the 17-17 game with David Palmer a loss...

Worst feeling I ever had after a tie.
