Worley vs. #1 Passing Defense

We are about to start a freshman QB against the #1 passing defense in the SEC. I keep hearing Worley is a better passer than Simms, which must be true, but how much do we expect him to throw against the top passing defense in the SEC? If Simms has the best grasp on the running game, then why not keep him in? Either way, we are probably not going to light it up passing against USC. Thoughts?

First play = air it out to rogers! Go big, it is a night game at Neyland. Got to prove you can throw it out there to get them to back off. GO VOLS!

Stats mean little. Yes, they will have a good D, but they have played:

ECU--sucks
Ga--got lit up for 40+ points, didn't they?
Navy--runs 95% of the time
Vandy--vandy
Aub--run, reverse, run, screen, reverse, run, throw
Ky--hello newton
MSU--running team

If they were anything lower than 1st with that schedule, it would be pitiful

They are #1 pass defense in SEC because of the competition they played. ECU threw for 260, UGA threw for 248. The other teams were Navy, (do they even have a pass play in their playbook?), Vandy, Auburn, Kentucky, and Miss. State.

Maybe not such a shock if it's based on Passing Yards Per Game. Navy threw the ball 9 times total against them, and Vandy is not good. Murray and East Carolina had no problem throwing the ball against them.

So do you expect them to come out throwing with Worley or running the ball?

Don't expect 20 - 30 with 250+ yrds and 3 Tds.

12 - 24 with 150-175yrds and 1 TD can win with a decent running game.

I expect them to come out running, but see what SC does on D. Chaney will have more options if he sees that Worley is playing at a good speed, and could open up the passing game more than with Simms. However, we still are short on targets, which makes a big difference than what Bray walked into last year.

I have to think Worley has shown the coaches something somewhere or he wouldn't be going in as the starter. That or the fact that Dooley is so pissed and frustrated with Simms. It could be both. I dont think that Dooley has liked Simms since he has been the coach. I think he has tried to like him like we all have because the kid has a good heart. I think Dooley is pissed at him making stupid mistakes and errant throws. If Simms had done what we needed and just been able to manage a game then he would still be the starter. He hasnt been able to do it though.

I expect him to make poor decisions and probably throw a couple of pics. However, I also expect him to be able to throw a 20 yard pass accurately enough to NOT get intercepted, which Simms proved Saturday he is not able to do.

That is enough right there. He's like many of us fans in the sense that he can't watch it anymore. Remember that pic of him last year when it looked like he was going to hit Simms? He was saying, "THROW the Effing Ball!". He's had enough. Worley may blow it, but he's a freshman. You can't have 5th yr seniors looking like JV qb's and keep the team, coaches, and fans into the season.

USCjr is not only the #1 pass defense in the SEC but in the entire nation (Alabama is #3 in the nation and Florida is #6). We are #41.

This is what I never undertood about Simms, it is almost as if he seeing things so slow that his passes are always late. There was a pass to Rivera that he threw in the 2nd half against Bama where he had great protection, Rivera was open and he just stared at him until the defender came up.

There is no part of their pass D that anyone with any sense would trade for if they had LSU's or AL's pass defenses.
