didn't call time out at midfield with approximately a minute left on 3rd and 4th downs at midfield? Just curious? not second guessing

We were getting the ball first to start the second half. You noticed Muschamp called a timeout before we converted because they wanted one more possession...because we got the ball first in the second.

at the end of the game Butch.....not the first half
You didn’t specify Oats. You do realize we didn’t run out of time on our final drive? When SC converted that last first down, we weren’t going to be able to get the ball back unless they turned it over. Refreshing to have 3 timeouts towards the end of the game tho. Of the two coaches, Muschamp had wasted two of his by the 4th quarter.

we didn't run out of time because they stopped us... we didn't have plays called on third or fourth down that would have gotten the required yardage An offensive minded coach would have called time-out and gotten the best available play

There is no question that he is still learning on the job. He is not accustomed to calling timeouts, so it appears he just doesn’t think about it. He’s gonna have to learn. Also could be a byproduct of preoccupation as DC. Whatever the reason, it appears he’s been slow to develop a feel for the game and an idea of clock management. Would be a good idea to bring in a seasoned former HC to serve as an “analyst” dedicated to helping him learn the parts of being an HC that he hasn’t yet experienced.

seriously?

lol. you think he mismanaged the clock against USCe? if you want to see mismanagement of a clock, go watch the end of the 1st half of the GA/FL game, and tell me how well Kirby did.....with 2 time outs and the ball.

lol....

Clock mismanagement was the final 2 minutes of our game two days ago. JG was sacked with 2:25 remaining. Made it 4th down. Did we call a timeout to stop the clock and set up the play? No. We got a false start penalty on the 4th down attempt because we were hurrying. And on the next attempt JG was sacked again. All total over a minute of time ran off the clock to get off one play.

Call timeout and set up the offense on a critical 4th down conversation attempt. If we convert, great! 1st down, 2+ minutes remaining, and we still have 2 timeouts to score. If we don't score, then UGA has to run 2 minutes off the clock and we have 2 timeouts.

I bet that extra minute would have been nice to have instead of UGA getting the ball with 1 minute left and our timeouts didn't really matter at that point anymore. UGA ball with 2:20 and we have 2 timeouts is much better than UGA ball with 1 minute if we don't convert.

i'll buy that. the logic is sound.

my only counter to that is, it's what led up to that point that made a bigger difference than that series of events.....you are where you are in terms of situational football, and i agree, at that point, what you say makes the most sense.

but there were opportunities before we got to that point that we wasted either with more dumb offensive penalties, or not being able to get USCe off the field.

The time out before the end of game 4th down play should have been called by our HC... period.
Offensively, we are just not experienced, cohesive or good enough to not do so... end of story.
BTW, not hindsight, I was screaming so loud for it at the time I nearly blew a fuse.

That's absurd. You know what's better than getting the ball at halftime? Getting the ball at halftime after you put up 3 points against a reeling defense.

Muschamp called TO because he was coaching to win the game.

Pruitt kneeled the ball because he is still thinking like a defensive coordinator at Bama and thought 5 points was 4 more than he needed to win.

He called all three timeouts at the end of the game.

I know what you are thinking. "He should have used those two he took to halftime when he wasted that possession for no reason."

I agree. Unfortunately, they don't let you.
