Yes I would still care. I have personal reasons but would still watch and care.

And Summitt leaving is the funniest thing I've heard.

Well, I didn't mean like that she chose to go somewhere else. Eventualy she will just retire. And as others have posted on here Florida is doomed now to slide back as these players and maybe Donovan leaves. But UF will still as an institution join in the frey with 300 other schools trying to get to the top of the hill again.

I do not think that the women's game at UT would get nearly the interest it does from UT fans if it weren't for its success.

Okay now i disagree with you lol. Correct me if I wrong but what you're saying is that the women's game is trying to be like the men's because they have a tournament? Is softball trying to be like baseball because of the world series?

That is exactly correct.

we're not going down this road again.........

LOL, okay, okay.

Reasonable people can disagree on this. And I am grateful for other people's opinions. I have actually mellowed on this somewhat in the last week or so. Before, I saw no inherent value to it at all, but on relfection I see that it means a lot to the kids involved and they should be congratulated for their effort and success. But that's asa far as I can go !! LOL

Of course not. Because while they try to make the women's game as interesting or as exciting as the men's game, it will not be so.
i think you missed the point.......

you should have stopped with:
"while they try to make the women's game as interesting or exciting as possible." the reasoning behind the format of the tourney was not to equal the excitement of the men's game, simply to generate excitement and interest FOR the women's game.

if you can distinguish the two, this debate becomes infititely closer to being done.

Valid point. However, do you see some merit to my point that all but a handful of schools lose money on the proposition?

Basically what it boils down to is this, I like reading my own posts. I also enjoy coming into threads and babbling incessantly about something I allegedly could care less about. In closing, don't mind me, I'm just here for the attention.
I agree completely.

sure i do. but that's not a reason to diminish one team's accomplishment or one coach's career accomplishments because the sport, in fact, isn't the same as the men's game.

like i said, you could cut the women's tourney in half, and it would probably be better, competitively speaking. the bottom half of the women's tourney, eh who cares? the talent pool in the women's game is not near as deep as the men's.......

but that stil wouldn't make it as good/entertaining/exciting as the men's game, it would simply enhance what the women's game currently has going for it--a handfull of good teams that have fan and some TV interest and actually generate revenue from the sport.

The same thing can be said about the men's game. It fact in can be said about any sport, regardless of gender.
