Worse than CC last playoff game shooting wise ..
I had heard of A'ja's "special whistle" but wasn't sure I believed it. Then I watched the Fever - Aces series and had trouble believing my eyes. I mean, she trips over her feet, falls down, and they call a foul on the nearest favorite player? Even the announcers went to Great lakes to concoct theories about her shooting form to account for her special whistle. But still, maybe not, right? Well maybe so..
Maybe I've missed something, but she is one of the best most reliable W sources I know of. She's very well connected also very cautious in what she posts.Pulling Alexa Phillipou as an example of journalistic integrity is hilarious!![]()
It wasn't exactly that Roberts orchestrated the trade. That happened the instant the Sparks hired her. Roberts style, which she was completely devoted to, is just incompatible with Rickea's game. What Roberts did, in desperately trying to explain what appeared a nonsensical trade, said it was for a defensive upgrade. Which completely pushed Rickeas buttons, apparently in a good way for her D.If the Sparks now ex-coach flop orchestrated the Rickea trade, that might be the biggest self own in league history. Only a faulty ACL, kept the Sparks from looking like the biggest idiots since the Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees.

Maybe they could even put "knowing the rules" in the next Improvement Clinic. Or, just, you know, don't hire officials who don't?While the tripping call on Boston was stupid and happened to be very consequential, it's not accurate to credit that to a special Aja whistle. Refs have been making this call both in college and pros forever. Whenever anyone falls, 90% of the time they call tripping on the closest player.
The other "player safety" call that's gotten completely out of hand is the safe landing zone call. Shooters obviously jump forward, even on to the feet of the defender, but the defender gets called. Even upgraded to a flagrant.
Both of these need to be studied in the next ref Improvement Clinic
I think you're overreacting to an off hand comment made in the heat of battle, probably just to get Sophie out of his face. He could have been being sarcastic etc If every red can't recite exactly what can be challenged when and where, there are certainly other officials on site who can.Maybe they could even put "knowing the rules" in the next Improvement Clinic. Or, just, you know, don't hire officials who don't?
Enjoyed this podcast Sophie and Drew Hanlen, but this story by Sophie about what an official said after the brutal take-down of Lexie Hull by Bri Turner (foul on Lexi, of course) is just, well, it left me completely gob-smacked:
Can we get into this clip a little bit? I’ve been dying to talk about this. Lexi was playing great defense, and Brie Turner actually came and hooked her and, like, low-key did a WWE move. It could have been dangerous—her shoulder legit could have popped out. If you watch the clip, it’s a dangerous play. Definitely an upgrade. Flagrant one could have been flagrant two, because sometimes I don’t know how the refs call—whatever.
So, on this play right here, that guy stepped out. I mean, I guess we should start causing more of a reaction to how other people come into Gainbridge and try to call our fans all these names, all this trash. No, we have great fans, and we’re proud to represent them. They represent us.
Love that. We just know how to handle ourselves, so good job, us Fever girls.
On that play, though, Steph White comes and calls a timeout and tries to challenge it. One of the officials calls her for a T for coming out on the court. And we’re like, “We’re trying to challenge it.”
Then one of the refs, Tim—I said, “Tim, why can’t we challenge that?”
And he goes, “I don’t know the rules.”
What? What? You’re a ref in the playoffs, and you don’t know the rules?
Here's the video. This section is at 34:56.
Smart woman. As I've said, I've come to really appreciate Kelsey Mitchell as a player and, from what I've seen, as a person this season. But perhaps she would do well to listen to Courtney here:
Agreed.Kelsey Mitchell is a free agent and has been loyal to Indiana throughout her career. Who can blame her for looking at her options including considering the pros and cons of staying at Indiana. It might be easy for those not in her shoes to just say "avoid social medial" as a way to deal with the intense reactivity of Caitlin's and now Sophie's, but she has friends, colleagues, and family who I imagine read plenty of it. There is not a way to truly get away from it other than being is in some isolation chamber. Indeed, we even see it here from people who don't who rarely watch the W. She has stayed at Indiana with Caitlin without complaint in honoring her contract, so now that she has a choice and states that she would prefer to play on the backside of her career at a place that is not the center of a maelstrom of controversy, good for her. We don't have many people like her in public life modeling healthy decisions along with hard work.
Of course there is. Aja Wilson, the planet's best player, just did it. She said it was extremely hard but also an extremely good life choice. Said it made her real life relationships much richer. There is not a way to truly get away from it other than being is in some isolation chamber.
Even A'ja in an interview said "but I see it allOf course there is. Aja Wilson, the planet's best player, just did it. She said it was extremely hard but also an extremely good life choice. Said it made her real life relationships much richer.
I get that for younger people social media seems inevitable and inescapable. But it's really truly not. It's just a strongly psychologically addictive habit, like smoking or over eating. Like any of those habits once they become harmful you just have to stop. Because they are not mandatory, they are voluntary.
Even if they can't break away completely, why wouldn't you simply make your social media private?
