I have never an official WNBA commentator state during a game they are calling or during the half-time break coverage that the Fever would be better without CC.

But I don't watch every game of course so I must have missed that moment? Do you recall who said it?

As for "experts", Angel gets plenty of social media grief so I am sure that narrative is already out there.

I don't think so. Because so far Angel is into being a good supportive teammate to a degree that almost puts your teeth on edge. And also it's Ryan Howard and Alicia Gray so how mad is anyone gonna get at the world's chillest duo? I think the dream are just way too live or die by the 3 and mostly they've been dying by it lately. Semesco is one of those analytic cult members. Jordan Canada can be really good but also inconsistent. I think they're about to get Bree Jones back so shoud help. But Angel has done her part Bulldogging the boards and has been saying the right things.

I think more than a few people think this Fever squad is better without the current version of CC. Started thinking that when they unexpectedlymade a playoff run without her last year. Maybe not the idealized version, but arguably better sans the current version. Mitchell and Boston absolutely bloom when she's out. And that's not really a criticism of CC, just what happens when you share oxygen with a superstar. Let alone one that draws the extra ish that CC does. To me they play relieved when she isn't around.

Also helps the Fever a ton to have what will certainly be a much better defensive player in more of the time. That helps offset some of the loss of CCs scoring.

Just heard an update on her back and they said she's literally day to day and went on about how it depends on her sleep the amount of travel the amount of consecutive days so obviously she's fragile AF. Hate this for her because I'm beginning to wonder if we're ever going to get the idealized version again

Regarding fan participation in All Star voting, what could possibly go wrong with relying on a fan base that's demonstrated as much rationality as W fans have...

It's utterly ridiculous in concept and obviously not even well administered. Reportedly over half of the LA sparks roster never even received ballots. And Kelsey Plums came in 12th place.

I know there's the traditional prestige of being named to the all-stars team across all sports, women's and men's. But for a long time now I've quietly fantasized that the WNBA would consider having, instead of a mid-season "All-Star Game," they'd have a "Fan Favorites Game" that is 100% fan vote determined. No coaches or media votes. Just give the fans what they want and let it be all for fun.

And then at the end of the season, have a second game that is a real competition between the top players that the coaches and, basically, the season's statistics determine the rosters for. Now THAT would be a fantastic watch!

It was proven in last year's playoffs that the Fever were fine, if not better without Clark. They had the Aces nervous in that series, so close. On the other hand, today's game proves just how much Aja makes the Aces better. They really don't have a big that can account for the loss in her production, take attention away from the guards, and make a go-to shot when needed.

Several times Becky Hammond has mentioned her team just not playing defense, today it was evident. How many times did someone drive from one end to the other for an uncontested layup? It was like teams throwing behind the Lady Vols press, FRUSTRATING! LOL. I composed myself and didn't yell "stop the ball" or my other go-to "they also pay you to play defense."

Dana Evans and Barker still out with injuries too.

as always, Go Lady Vols.

The Fever do seem to play better without CC, but could you imagine the firestorm if they do decide to trade her? What would happen to those pro CC and Fever podcasters who always spew vial comments on anyone or the league if they feel she has been disrespected. As an example, although CC was voted as a starter for the all star game, they say there was cheating because she wasn’t the number 1 vote getter. These people don’t seem to understand that there are other talented people in the W, many of them better than CC. Most of us who watch A lot of college basketball know that one player dominating a team does not win a championship. Sure, there are players who step up when needed, but relying on one player day in and day out is not good. Oh one other thing, Mitchell and Boston are more important players on the Fever than CC. My opinion of course, but seems to be true.

Who said CC was best Player in WNBA? She may not be best player but she is the most MARKETABLE..... Puts money in her pocket and bring more exposure to the League...

The "best" is most usually subjective, so I agree with you there. I also agree that she's the most marketable and putting money in both her pockets and the rest of the WNBA. Much like Venus Williams' impact on equal pay in tennis, you can't discount CC's impact on the overall salary increases.

Over the last five games, the Dream are last in field goal percentage (38.4%), 14th in 3-point percentage (26%), 14th in offensive rating (98.2) and 13th in turnover rate (18.1%). Gray, Rhyne Howard and Angel Reese are all shooting below 40% during the losing streak, and Howard is the only one with more assists than turnovers.

But her marketability is, in part, based on the narrative that she is a game changing, "generational" talent. That is the idea that generates all the smoke and leads to insane conspiracy theories when she is not dominating the league.

In reality, she is an excellent passer (one of the best in the W, though Chelsea Gray, Paige B. and Olivia Miles are also in that conversation); she is an average 3 point shooter with above average range (and fans do tune in to see her nail a logo 3 about 15 to 20% of the time). She has improved her mid-range game and her ability to get to the rim but I don't think she is elite on those dimensions. I won't even get into the defensive stuff. She did put up some eye popping rookie numbers but we have since seen, an offensive system that optimizes her personal stats probably suboptimizes the team.

I am quite curious how long this discrepancy between Caitlin Clark the marketing myth and Caitlin Clark, the actual player can be sustained.

In fairness to Clark, her chronic back issues have likely skewed her early pro career way more than anyone even wants to admit. She has done pretty well overall, but might have done even better if she could have stayed healthy. Chronic pain affects every aspect of life. I feel bad for her to be dealing with that at her age.
