I think the reason Tennessee hasn’t had any Deep Threats yet this year is because of Erik’s pinky, with two weeks of healing do you think he could possibly throw the deep ball? I haven’t seen many if ANY Deep balls thrown yet this year and I think by adding that Deep Threat would open up the Run game more.

I think one of the reasons our Punt Coverage has been hurting is because our Punter was hurting. Now that Colquit is back on the Punting duties it should allow the Coverage time to get down field and set up for the tackle. So I think we will see better Punt Coverages.

I kind of like to think that the Coaches are smarter than I am, and If I can tell you our problems on Defense is Tackling, then you can probably bet your pay check the coaches know our problems on Defense is Tackling.
With the two weeks to prepare for this game, I think we will see a HUGE Difference in the Defense we’ve been seeing and the Defense that will play on Saturday.

I wouldn't get your hopes up with the whole tackling thing, we havent been able to tackle anyone in years.

I agree with you about making huge progress on the defensive side....only one way to go and thats up....i also believe that ainges pinky has bothered him some, but i think Cutty has been trying to keep the play-book simple for the in-experienced wr's...now that we have our backs against the wall and with gerald jones and the other young gunners getting a shot i hope they open it some more...that use to be the thing i loved about cutcliffe, first possession of the game, out of a time-out it didnt matter he would hit ya with a homerun ball...hope to see it on saturday.....GO VOLS!!!!

I see your point about the Simple Plays for the inexperienced WR's. I would hope they have enough Experience now to open it up a little with them.

I would also like to see more Chris Brown Catches.

Agree with you about Brown...been a very consistent TE this year.....I also agree with you about hoping that 5 games into the season the WR's can start to make some big time plays...Lucas Taylor is putting out good numbers this year so far, havent been that impressed with Hanckock and Briscoe though...Would love to see Lucas Taylor, Moore, and Jones lined up....I think this far into the season Chris Brown is the Offensive MVP....IMO

Definately CB has played well but I wouldn't give him Offensive MVP, I'd toss that to Erik.

Briscoe to me is up and down, He'll run out on the field and I'll tell my wife, damn... then he'll catch a nice catch and make me eat my words.

I think we should put Creer and Coker in at Punt Return duties or Creer and Arian or Creer or Hardesty.

IMO Ainge could heal his pinky and add 2 extra fingers and it probably wouldn't help. Opposing defenses are going to keep playing Cover 2 until we show a semblance of being able to get any sort of push at the line of scrimmage and run the ball.

While Ainge's finger might have something to do with the lack of a deep threat, the personel at receiver is the biggest culprit. Taylor, Rogers, and Briscoe just don't scare defenses deep, and they aren't exactly the type of wideout you can throw a jump ball to 40 yards down field with a lot of hope of success. There just isn't a Stallworth or Meacham or Swain or Washington on the field.

As for punt coverage, I think you put too much emphasis on Colquitt and not enough on the other 10 guys. There might not have been anything spectacular about the kicks on the two TDs, but it wasn't like they were short line-drives in the middle of the field, either. Maybe our strategy is that everybody else takes up a blocker so Britton can make the tackle after he boots it. If so, then I'll agree it's his fault.

PinkieGate should be over. The finger will not be taped up this week. I don't think it was such a big deal for the deep ball anyway though. Erik was perfectly capable of throwing that 20 yard out to the sideline these past games. That is a throw that has to have some mustard on it, he delivers it so well that it's one of the things pro scouts love about the guy..

At any rate, he should throwing... and handing off.. normally now. Least that's what Fulmer said earlier in the week.

Agreed. If they gave scholarships for punting the ball out of bounds I could do it.

When's the last time we've had a decent special teams? Even our 98 team was a David Leaverton tackle away from losing to FSU. Writer Clay Travis (UT Fan & CBS columnist) says that special teams motto should be "Kick it high, Wave your arms, & Pray for a penalty". I think that's about right. Maybe we should just start going for it on 4th down.

This will work if we Stop the run. So simple of a thing but it effects our whole game it opens the door and is called a Key.

Best thing that could happen to the vols tommorrow is build a lead early and make georgia pass to catch up. The defense is what it is. It may improve slightly but not enough to think we will shut georgia completely down.

I also wouldn't be all worked up over this coaching staff having an extra to prepare.

Strategy has never been their strong suit. Their going to try and "play Tennessee football", which has no meaning to anyone but them.

I don't believe Erik's pinky is the reason the ball hasn't been going downfield. I think it's because we have a bunch of young and inexperienced receivers that are still honing their skills related to what they're supposed to be doing.
