With our injuries

I don't think he has missed his chances.

Next year East is wide open. UT has deepest talent still if they don't get injured like this year. Because of injuries this year team has a lot of experience.

Now in order to do so, he needs to get rid of Debord and Mahoney and get a real OC and OL coach. The only reason the Debord hire made sense is I thought the OL would at least be the strength of the team. That didn't pan out at the beginning of the season when they were somewhat healthy.

We are running all over teams now that Hurd is gone. The offense is putting up PlayStation type numbers. 38 on UF (next closest is Arkansas with 24), 700 yards on aTm, 160 points over the last 3 games

If we win at Vandy then get into the Sugar Bowl and win that, I truly believe Butch should be considered for National Coach of the Year.

It sounds like winning the east is not the objective, according to Butch we are going to three straight bowl games which apparently has never been done before at TN.

Well from 2011 to 2014 we couldn't even make it to a bowl game....and we lost our bowl games in 2009 and 2010!

And lopsided schedule, 9 wins will be impressive. Butch Jones is still my homeboy.

Flame away negavols.

And this attitude is why UT has won the SEC only twice since 1990. Too many of us are "impressed" by being second tier.

"With our injuries"? Injuries do not occur in a vacuum. Jones owns them because he hasn't successfully corrected a problem. They've been abnormally high for the past 3 years. Why? And why hasn't something been done to bring it in line?

I wanted to give Jones credit for replacing the S&C guy but that was apparently due to conduct rather than job performance. He did not replace Lawson from outside the program indicating Jones' intention of "staying the course". HE OWNS THE INJURIES.

And your attitude would have coaching changes every 2 or 3 years. Coaching didn't lose SC game..internals..freshman causing fumble and Dobbs playing his worst game of his career did. Also coaching didn'the cause all those turnovers against A&M. You think what you want and I will do the same.

I know our rush defense has been horrendous. But, if you take out your top 5 DTs and best LB, any defense turns into swiss cheese.

Vickers was and is a starter at DT.
So, they haven't lost 5 tackles.
They have played Phillips, Mixon and Lewis at tackle more than Picou and Mosley hasn't had a snap.

If necessary, yes. Tolerance of mediocrity or worse will NEVER produce success no matter how much time you give it or wish it would. My loyalties are to the program. Not any particular coach.

Jones entered the season with high expectations and a great roster. He gets credit for that. He also gets the blame for limping out of the season 2nd place to a VERY mediocre UF team in a weak division.

In 4 years he has yet to prove he is capable of competing at the top of the SEC. Some of us said 2 or even 3 years ago that good coaches, coach good. The meaning was that the better coaches would outperform their talent even when they had little. Jones has NEVER done that at UT. In each year, he's left at least one win on the field. In all but maybe the second year, he has lost to a team with less talent. Unless you count USCe, he hasn't beaten a team with more talent.

So no. I do not think Jones has "earned" patience or understanding.

Right. In year 4, the team has internal problems, inconsistent at best performances, a weak OL, a weak and thin LB corps, one SEC caliber CB.... but it isn't the HC's fault?

Just keep thinking like that. There's plenty of room in the 2nd tier.... and fun to be had watching other teams play for championships. Shoot. If we are just "patient" enough maybe recruiting will fall off enough to leave the program and roster as bad as they were when Fulmer was pushed out.
