I agree H-U-A-L...100%. The next men up clearly aren't the first picks by our coaches to start at their positions, but neither are bama's nor any other teams' backups. Let's re-open the realization that second and third team athletes at UT and other big-time schools were stars most of their lives before deciding where to play at the college level, and although the drop-offs can occasionally be tragically harmful, in general there shouldn't be as much of a drop-off as some of VN's negative Nancies are claiming. These reserves know their assignments. These guys are all charged up at the challenge before them...uber-motivated...and rest assured these guys, to a man, are driven to make believers out of their outspoken doubters...particularly with a bona-fide opportunity to slay a giant (a red elephant in this case). Naturally I wouldn't bet my ranch that UT will beat bama...even if the Vols had no injuries; was at full strength and if bama was even more injury decimated than our never-say-quit Vols. If there was a way one could measure/quantify such an entity, I'd bet all I've got that our men in orange will be the most motivated and focused team on the field this coming third Saturday in October. We CAN win with these next men up!This isn't just directed at you as I've seen this several times from different posters lately...but...y'all clearly don't get what 'next man up' means. It's not a statement that we have a difficult time selecting starters because there is no dropoff in our depth chart. It doesn't mean, 'Who cares? All of our corners/linebackers are as good as Cam/Jalen.' It means that our guys on the bench have to be ready to lay it on the line at any given moment because anything can happen and they have to prepare as if it definitely will. The fans have started to latch onto the phrase because our players have,- the ones that have been forced into action have given it all they've got.
So there's really no need to berate well meaning fans with your opinion of how our roster compares to Bama's. Will we win Saturday? We'll know soon enough. I do think it's completely possible, and it darn sure wouldnt be one of the all time great 'upsets.' You probably disagree, though...
