On some level it feels as though Hamilton felt obligated to go after a couple of really big fish. Now that they have both declined it is on to the real candidates.

Here is a blurb about Kiffin in the OC Register.

Kiffin not the same kid who showed up at USC - USC - OCRegister.com

The Kiffin I met more than seven years ago might have imploded in the past few days. He could be so abrasive that his value was obscured. A couple years into the Carroll era, I was talking to another coach on the staff and the discussion turned to Kiffin.
The other coach was blunt in his assessment, calling him “one of the biggest (expletives) in football,” taking a breath and continuing, “but he’s a genius.”

Lex i know your high on leach. But the more i read about kiffin the more i like him. Young, hungry and a great recruiter, i like those traits. If he could bring discipline i think he would be a very solid hire.

In many ways Kiffin is less of a risk than Leach. I just like the idea of the circus that Mike would bring to town. I do think Leach could win here, but I don't know if he could recruit as well as Kiffin would. Nor do I think he could assemble the supporting cast as easily as Kiffin could.

As I have stated, there is part of me that just wants to be entertained watching UT football again.

Following a Legend is tough...Will UT have to take a 'Zook' before landing its real coach?

History favors that scenario more often than not. After a three win season, anything will feel like progress.

If it's Kiffin I wish they would go ahead and sign the contract so he could coach the last two games (lol) and start the asst coach hiring process as well as begin the recruiting grind.

I bet it happens sooner than later.

I still believe they'll wait until after we lose for the first time in 2000 years to kentucky.

Kiffin's a laid back, west coast type of guy---I doubt discipline is high on his list. Example: Reggie Bush.

In my opinion, it's looking more and more like Kiffin. Not my first choice, but oh well, not a bad one either.

you hit the nail on the head right there. the staff that Lane can bring together is what sets him apart. esp if Coach O comes as the d-coord. say what you will about the O, but he can recruit.

Discipline may be the most important thing that needs fixing on the hill. Maybe we can find a retired drill sargent that has nothing better to do.

that being said, I would not be shocked at all if MH tabbed Brian Kelly

Kiffin has been my preference for a while. Just got a feeling he'd bring the energy and brains like Pearl has in BB.

i think Kelly is higher on MH's list than Leach.

also, coach O isn't going to be the defensive coordinator if Kiffin can hand pick his own guy.
