The way our ridiculous fanbase is with the crazy expectations, I wouldn't blame him for going. I doubt a lot of teams will want to wait for Lane Kififn to reject them in late January
Too many jobs, not enough quality coaches. Be careful what you wish for.
LSU is looking for both an AD and a coach. They could come after both Danny and Heupel.
I'd say they have thicker skin than people think. Heupel isn't Botch Jones who got butt hurt over every time someone said anything unflattering about his coaching...With the way our fans have treated Danny and Heupel in the past few weeks, I can't say I'd blame them if they bounce.
Let's assume they do leave. Who do we target as football coach? To me you have 2 choices:
1. Alex Golesh
2. Promote an interim and wait for the right guy to emerge.
It's not just about thick skin. If someone offers you a $3-4M raise, you have to really love where you're at to say no. The only way he turns down that kind of money is if there's no reason to leave.I'd say they have thicker skin than people think. He'll get bump in pay i'd imagine to possibly help that from happening. Although they drop their last 2 SEC games these fans wouldn't care if he did leave. We haven't learned from the past apparently..It's not about thick skin. If someone offers you a $3-4M raise, you have to really love where you're at to say no. Heupel is smart enough to not let message board morons influence his career decisions. He’s a great coach and I hope he stays here is whole careerThe way our ridiculous fanbase is with the crazy expectations, I wouldn't blame him for going. Yes, LSU is a top 5 job. However, the knowledge that they are perfectly willing to fire their head coach in the middle of the season once the playoffs are no longer in play, the Interim AD immediately stating publicly that they should be in the playoffs every season, and the Governor of the state publicly announcing the AD would not be making the next hire followed by the AD being fired would tell me that Heupel would have absolutely no interest in heading down there, if he were to even be offered the job.Not sure how it would be spun. But if Heupel left to take the LSU job, it would be because he had a chance to take a Top 5 job. Tennessee is like Top 15.
Him moving to Florida or Auburn would be lateral moves that would be more about internal issues at Tennessee more than anything. But if he somehow wound up being the guy at LSU, it is because it is a better job.
Sure. LSU just fired an AD and a coach. Dumpster fire: Just as rabid a fan base. Penn State? They just fired a playoff coach who had a way deeper resume. The way our ridiculous fanbase is with the crazy expectations, I wouldn't blame him for going. It’s crazy that fans and former players overlook this and can’t accept it as reality! Then have the nerve to tell fans how to fan! Most of the fans expected 8-9 wins, especially the realistic fan. But 2 of the losses are on him. No clock management, conservative play calling. If he doesn't fire a few coaches, he won't last 2 years

If there weren’t fans, there would be NO MONEY!!!!
With money and publicity, pressure, expectations, and criticism increase! I feel no pity for anyone making millions playing or coaching football or any sport.
And part of the VALID CRITICISM of CJH is his horrible portal management and philosophy thus far….Everyone is focused on buying something that doesn't exist, a coach who can win a national championship. We need to focus less on the coaching staff and more on the players. The race is now which team can buy the best, deepest lineup and maintain it thru the bidding wars. This is a new skill and, as you can see from the list of fired coaches, not many coaches possess it.
neither would be a better job. As crazy as we are, UT is one of the most unique and awesome fan bases in sports. IT is amazing how widespread we are.. Pretty much everywhere you go you can find a UT fangroup. There are UT themed bars in Tokyo and London. One of the reasons UT travels so well is because a lot are already there. UTK knoxville alumni chapters are all over.LSU and Auburn wouldn’t be rebuilds.
huh? most of the best players we have had during his tenure came via portal....and his HS recruiting is right there with anyone we have had in the last 2 decades. And part of the VALID CRITICISM of CJH is his horrible portal management and philosophy thus far….
There are major chinks in the armor and he has an opportunity to fix them, but only once more, especially the coordinators and recruiting! Remember, it was known 5 years ago that his recruiting was marginal at best.
