Winner: The Tennessee vs. Florida Rivalry

hi-res-238664597712368a3ca04ff5019307ed_crop_north.jpg

The Tennessee-Florida rivalry is back, baby! And it could be better than ever.
Narrow Florida wins over the Volunteers in each of the last two seasons—which extended the Gators' winning streak to 11 over their once-heated East rival—have given the Vols a glimmer of hope as head coach Butch Jones has rebuilt the program in the wake of the Derek Dooley debacle.
An offseason Twitter war between players has added fuel to the fire.
In Hoover, some players got some things off their chests.
"It's always one of the funnest games of the year," Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis said. "Because we win."
He went on to play the disrespect card a little more in the radio/internet room.
"The way that they're talked about in the offseason, that just motivates us even more to go out and beat them," Davis said. "We don't go out in July and worry about these guys who are picked to win by this many points. When we're three or four games in, now it's time to step up and see who's going to be a man. It seems like we're able to do that each and every year."
The last time Tennessee beat the Gators, Twitter hadn't been invented yet. But the combination of Twitter wars and Vols hype—which resulted in their being picked to win the East—has restored this once-storied rivalry to national relevance again.

We have got to beat them this season. Heck not only beat them but beat them down.

Go Vols

I didn't realize there was any such "Twitter War" I don't call a few remarks or trash talk remarks coming from just a few players a war. Leave it to the media to hype up the game more to increase interest.

Davis and his teanmates are talking up a storm about UT in July making it clear they aren't worrying about UT in July. That's gold, Jerry. Gold.

Florida players using all their time gum bumping while team 120 is putting all their time into preparing to give arse whoopin's by the pound! That streak gives them the right to mouth all the way up to kick off, then its time to back it up. More than likely wanting to rile up the Vols so come gametime they will over pursue and worry more about trying to put big hits on gator players then playing our game. With the leadership on team 120 i just dont think they let that happen. I do want to see Hurd absolutely truck tabor a few times, but then keep rolling to the checkerboards afterwards.

That or one of our receivers lay a hard block on him, knocking him on his arse.

Notice the severe lack of any quotes from Vols players about the Florida game. Oh right, that's because we just straight up ignored it and acted professional. Davis can say they aren't worried in July, but he and the rest of the team sure are talking a lot. Meanwhile, our players are just conducting their business and letting the noise go in one ear and out the other.

Love it.

Love it.

Kongbo specifically mentioned Florida and Alabama, as he was responding to trash talk from Gators cornerback Jalen Tabor, who said last week the Gators would beat the Vols a 12th straight time this Fall and even took a shot at Peyton Manning for never beating Florida.

“Well I mean, I just kind of laughed at it because I know we’re going to beat Florida. I know we’re going to beat Alabama. We’re going to beat all those teams. So I’ll say right now, we’re going to beat every team we play next year. I just really laughed at it, especially the comments that Jalen made. It was funny. We’ll see what Jalen Hurd does to him though.”
The comments that Jalen Hurd made were in response to Tabor, which he tweeted out.

It's starting to have a 90s feel around this rivalry. If we get the W in Neyland this season TN vs FL could become a top 3 SEC rivalry again.

I hope we make the gators curse the day they were born. I hope their own mothers can't identify them. I hope it takes DNA. But then, that is just me.

This coming from a player who hasn't played much. Our players will let their actions on the field speak for themselves. It is time to end this streak
