Our DB Willingham said that they (the defense) were not looking for a short pass on that 3rd and 5 pass play that sealed the game.

Chavis said that Auburn did exactly what he thought they'd do. Roll out and throw to the sidelines at the 1st Down marker.

Well, if Chavis 'knew it', why play the corners back 8 yards from the wideouts?

Fred White just said that he's tired of the Defense playing scared, rather being Coached Scared, at crunch time in the 4th Quarter.

I just don't get it.

Willingham was quoted as saying the coaches told him to watch for the double move and the deep route.

Sounds about like phil's comments before the florida game. The part about having no leaders, then doing a complete 180 and saying we don't have a leadership problem. Nobody is on the same page up there are they.

I can't recall Chavis ever even implying that he has ever been at fault.

Yes. And then lined up the Defense in semi-prevent mode.

The Defense played great, but we do have issues late in the 4th quarter.

We're one of the most talented secondaries in the country. Still, we play back too much and are way too conservative. I just don't get the logic.

The defense should have never been in that position period. The fact our offense was in Auburns side of the field the entire second half and still lose is THE REASON why we lost the game along with the lack-luster coaching. Not one miss call on the defense who for the most part shut them down the second half.

Agreed. If we DID stop them, and got the ball back, does anyone have confidence that we actually would have moved the ball enough to get in FG range???

I would have liked to had the chance, but it wouldn't have happened with Crompton.

The defense held the Auburn offense to 7 points, and gave us good field position time and time again. I can't fault them or their effort in the game.

Have to agree, with JC taking the snaps....if we got the ball back 10 more times inside of the 50, doubt we would have had a shot for 1-2 field goal attempts.........but until I review the film I won't know for sure.

really you can't when they keep giving you good field position and the offense couldn't put points on the board. :cray:

A deep ball, by a QB who hasn't played the previous 2 games and struggled to throw when he did throw yesterday?? Wow.

No, they got the ball to the 38 yard line a few times in the 4th and could not do anything. Biggest mistake I thought in the 4th was on 4th and 2 at the 38 yard line deep in the 4th quarter. They should have went for it instead of punting the ball at that point, because it was clear they would never get close and that was at least a decent shot to get within FG range on the next downs .

Auburn got 1 first down the 4th quarter, so even though the first down was a game ender, I don't blame the D at all. The O stinks, stinks, why do they let Crompton to keep playing. Why do they waste time letting him throw? Maybe he plays well in practice, but he stinks in real play. At least pull him for a series to let his ego come down to earth, maybe that would ground him. UT plays UGA in two weeks who just lost and have a week off to seek revenge on the Vols. I hope the other qbs get some practice this week, because hopefully when Crompton stinks up the place at UGA, Fulmer will pull him. It is our only hope unless Crompton can pull out a miracle turnaround.

I'm recommending they set up a freaking projector on the sidelines then so they can correct the problem then and there. Either that or get a TV and catch the replay over & over with live commentary. I swear I'm using that line , "I'll have to watch the film..." at work one day.

When it is 3rd down on the 38 yard line and the ball comes closer to your booth than it does a UT player, one should not need the tape. At least attemp a throw and maybe get an interception, which would be better than a punt at the 38 yard line. I think I heard one of the announcer say, "Man, I hope he was trying to throw that out of bound"

The defense gave up 7 points this game. You can't ask for much more in SEC play. The entire blame falls on UT's (mainly Crompton) offense.

I am not blaming the Defense for the loss. I'm just wondering about that 3rd down play.

The defense made three straight 3 and outs before that play...can't expect them to be able to stop every single drive with no first downs when the offense couldn't keep them off the field with a first down of their own.

:eek:lol:If that is true, what else needs to be said? Was there really anyone still left here that didn't already know that Chavis was completely incompetent?

This is such a minor part of our problems that it scarcely deserves its own discussion.

Our defense played like champions. Even if they had made the stop, there is no way our inept offense gets it into field goal range, so it's really moot.

Honestly, of all the things to complain about...
