Unconfirmed rumors on other boards that WM has been fired. Conventional wisdom is that Bama's Kirby Smart will replace him. I expect the names of Ed Orgeron and Lance Thompson to come up if Smart is not named quickly.

I'm just glad that we finally have some assistant coaches that other prominent schools would want.....for a change.

I heard this the other day. I watched CMR press confrence yesterday and he said nothing about it. So if it is true, they are being tight lipped about it.

I'd love to hear a conversation between Richt and Orgeron.

Richt has a small fire below decks, which will rage into an inferno sinking the ship next year. Firing Martinez this year won't help although Martinez is a horrible DC. If he does, he'll have a new DC along with a new untested QB running the offense next year. Not a good combo when trying to maintain his job. Richt is one and done, sometime it's a choice between the fifty foot razor blade slide or the dive into a pool of 400 degree oil, either way, you're done. Richt is done, UGA simply has to give a another year as a matter of formality. What kid will sign up with UGA knowing Richt regime is done? Only a kid that really loves UGA with or without Richt.

Richt is the new Fulmer. They bring in all that talent and can't coach 'em up. I've been telling some Georgia fans that and they tell me the same thing we heard here. They look to the past at his winning record and say he is so loyal to the university and is a good man. Then they tell me he is too loyal to his assistants it is the fault of Bobo and Martinez. I will commend those Georgia fans I know as they pull for us against most other SEC schools.

I agree with Remy. It is only a matter of time.

If CEO goes to UGA I'll eat my hat. Lance Thompson I'm not as sure about, but they already have a recruiting whiz in Rodney Garner.

One implication of the above mentioned CMR Fulmeresque meltdown next year is CLK making another run at Rodney. If we had him on this staff then I'd call it an "embarrassment of riches" in recruiting.

I find it hard to believe Garner's name wouldn't be first on the list. They should really want to keep him

Apparently Rodney is happy with his role. He's been passed up a couple times already.

didn't know that but bringing in Orgeron for the job doesn't make sense. I can't imagine being the DL coach and recruiting coord under Coach O would be very rewarding

Why would O leave a newly started project (don't be silly, guys it business to CEO) with signs of progress and an immediate impact in recruiting, to go start at suare 1 again...IMHO, Georgia looks eerily similar to our vols last year minus our good D. There is def trouble in athens and coach O might have been in but they (UGA) are a year late.

CEO wants to be a head coach again someday- this is well documented. Don't look for him to make ANY lateral move.

I do not see the connection between UGA and Coach O. Remember that the only reason that Coach O came back to college was because of Lane and Monte. When he compares the differences between UT and UGA it will be an easy decision and look for him to stick with Monte and Lane.

On the other hand. Did CMR promise Rodney Garner a shot at the DC position if it came open to keep him last year? I want to see what happens if CMR goes in another direction. He is in a catch 22 here.

Ed to UGA isn't gonna happen, but man, wouldn't that be ironic considering Marlon Brown? Would granny make him transfer?

Richt is another incarnation of the former UCLA coach, Bob Toledo. Great talent, good person, great recruiting, decent coaching, winning records year in and year out, but always good for at least 2 or more losses every year even when given favorable early season rankings in set up for a national championship. Richt and crew have not ever gotten to a national championship game, much less win one. It's not in him and it's not in his future at Georgia. If you want to be part of the God Squad, sure, go to UGA, Richt & UGA is your program these days. If you want to actually play for and win a national championship, UGA is not your program and Richt's God squad only has one more year of tenure to which a new regime comes in who may or may not have the same attitude regarding religious beliefs. I wonder if a new Bill Goldberg were out there playing as a HS senior, would Richt overlook him for a scholly?

anyone got a link to these rumors?? I just have a hard time believing any of this before their last game, esp a rivalry game against Tech.

Orgeron is no dummy. You can smell death before the rotting takes place. Richt's regime at UGA is dying and they've already got that smell. It's one and done for Richt and Coach O knows what time it is. Most of us Vol fans ought recognize the smell by now, we lived with it Fulmer's last 3 seasons.

Sportstalk radio in Atlanta has hinted all week that WM is out and the announcement will be Sunday, delayed until after the GA Tech game. Supposedly CMR talked to Van Gorger who said "no" and referred him to Tenuta.

Hard to believe Richt would ever talk to Van Gorder again, that guy is absolutely soul-less and has devotion only to himself. That would be an act of supreme desperation.

I don't understand the Tenuta part of the rumor either. Irish defense sucks. Besides, he is ex-Tech.

I was assuming the OP was meaning CEO under Richt as part of his staff. The HC position at UGA is def a different story, after all he took the ole miss job.my bad

Yes, I think that is what the OP meant to say... my response to the OP is don't be worried about CEO considering any lateral move- won't happen.

Buck Belue, former UGA QB and current sports talk show host down here, has reported that the rumor is "unconfirmed". Tenuta did have a good run as DC at Ga Tech, but has struggled at ND. I would think he is number 3 on their wish list and the second most likely candidate. Kirby Smart, if he can be lured away from Saban and Bama, is number one right now. All the UGA fans want Will Muschamp to come home from Texas, but he has been tapped as HC in waiting, so there's no way in hell he leaves there. Tenuta would be the most likely candidate. I really don't think we have anything to worry about on or off the field. I think our staff remains in tack, and let's face it, if Tenuta comes to UGA, he MO isn't going to change. He always has been and always will be a blitz happy son of a gun. UGA currently doesn't have the defensive talent to cover in a blitz happy scheme.
