Tennessee become the school to pay the highest salary in college football once Fulmer leaves?? I could see us paying at least 4.5 million for the next coach who will grace our sidelines.

The only way I see that happening is if we try and attract like a Jimmy Johnson here, or someone of that nature. I have a feeling we'll be looking at grabbing an up-and-coming coach and probably toss no more than 2 million at them.

We already pay 2 million a year to Fulmer, why would a coach want the same salary based on what Bammer paid Saban earlier this year??

We are in competition with Bammer in everything we do, what should make me think we wouldn't hire a coach at a higher salary just to get under their skin??

I don't think we need to pay that much for our next coach. If we get a hot coach from a smaller school, $1.5-2 million may be all we need. Now if you're just wanting to grab a high profile name and "win the press conference", then that is a whole different matter.

What is your priority, "winning the press conference" or finding the best available candidate?

I think Rasputin pretty much summed it up. We aren't Alabama desperate yet either, they were coming off being on probation and having a horrible string of bad luck with coaches. I think it would be better to rub it in that our new, young, dependable coach (hopefully) is whooping tail for half the money.

There are plenty of coaches at places like Boise St., Cincinnatti, etc that would walk on broken glass to coach for $2 million at Tennessee. Probably just as many assistant coaches that would do it, as well. Like I said, if you want to get a Gruden or Rich Rodriguez or Petrino, then yes... you would need to grab these guys for a minimum of $4 million. But if we just want the best candidate, we can find one without having to pay more than $2 million.

Whoever comes in will be the second highest paid coach in the SEC behind Saban unless its a big name like you say. It will take 3 million a year for a the next head coach, mark it down. :good!: It's fair market value in the SEC right now.
