Will UT run or pass more this year?

Ok, we've all gotten our fill with each other on the philosophy and politics of football.

So here's a real question. UT has been known for a long time as a run-first football team and not in a decade have you been thought of as a team to fling it downfield very often.

Is that going to change? Is it still going to be three yards and a cloud of dust? Or are we going to see UT start passing on first down this year?

This question is a year too late. We'll pass when the defenses sell out against the run.

Definitely run oriented. Kiffin even said after he was hired that he wanted to pound the ball. And just compare the RBs to the QBs/WRs.

In an interview given by Chaney he said that they were going to find the weakest player on the opponents defense and attack him all day. That meant that some days they would pass more and some days they would run more. But the game plan would be built around attacking the weakest link much as the pros develop the game plan based on the opposition.

Considering how this staff has emphasized conditioning and being physical I would say we will be a running team.

However, like Hudro said above this team will prepare much more like a NFL team in respect to game planning against each opponent's weaknesses and strengths week to week.

This one is kind of tricky, I think i depends on who our quarterback is. If it's Mike Rozier then I would say 50/50. The reason why I say that because while we do have one of the best backfields in the country I always believe that if you have a guy that's that tall and big you should give him a few shots to throw the ball. If it's Coleman/Crompton/Stevens then it'll be 60/40. By the way nice profile picture Lawgator.

I'm more inclined to say 70/30 run. Especially with how loaded we are in the backfield. Plus, we need to set up the pass...big time.

I am also inclined to go with 70/30. If we are relying on spectacular QB play to win games, then it could be a long year. Our backfield, on the other hand, may very well be spectacular.

It's discussions like these I recall Spurrier speaking in interview years back, saying how the Vols strength was running the ball between the tackles and how it amazed and delighted him on the sidelines to watch them try and be something they're not. When they'd line up power I 2 TE's they were unstoppable, but the Vols under CPF would always try to be something they're not and blow it. He commented it was unbelieveable logically, yet it happened.

3 things can happen when you put the ball in the air. 2 of them are bad. Establish the run with all those backs they have and chunk it deep when you have them off guard.

I think if UT wants to be succesful this season, they need to establish a running game. If you play in the SEC, you need a running game to survive. They have Bryce Brown so that shouldn't be a problem.

Time to pull old Johnnie's playbook out... run to left, run to right, run up the middle....punt. Perhaps......with improved run blocking they won't punt as much.

I got the impression that when Crompton came in, he was touted as a passing QB. How much of last year's weakness in that regard was him versus the coaches not being willing to focus on that part of things? I mean, if the kid has that talent, why not open it up and go there?

Crompton has had 4 OC's in 5 years and underwent surgery on his throwing shoulder his freshman year. He isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, so I wonder what his career would have been like had he not gone through so many changes?

Run, run, run, run...think about passing and then run, run. That might be our offense.
