He might.

The golf is good in Crossville.

But better in Knoxville. There isn't a course in the Crossville area as good as Holston Hills CC, Cherokee CC or Fox Den cc. As a UT coach, he would have a membership in one, if not two of those clubs

i DON'T THINK YOU MAKE A MOVE LIKE THIS WITHOUT HAVING SOMEONE IN MIND. MY GUESS IS THE FEELERS HAVE ALREADY BEEN SENT OUT TO GAUGE INTEREST ON POSSIBLE PROSPECTS AND THEY WILL NARROW IT DOWN FROM THERE. I THINK THEY ALREADY KNOW WHO THEY WANT. KIFFEN WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST CHOICE BUT IF HOLDING ON TO RECRUITING IS OF MAIN CONCERN THEN KIFFEN WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE RIGHT NOW.

If the decision is in the next week it's Kiffin or Cowher. If it's longer, it's a current coach. Pretty simple.

I don't know who's on the "short list", and I don't have a cousin who went to school with Mike Hamilton's next-door neighbor, but.....

It's safe to assume that UT had a "list", and that the head-hunter they hired will test the waters with them, and probably a few more. After he's talked to all of them (and that's probably done), there will be a face-to-face with Hamilton, and they'll narrow it down to probably 5 or so serious candidates. Then a second round of calls to those candidiates to talk about "timing" and "money". After that, face-to-face meetings with the candidate and their agent. Those meetings probably won't take place in Knoxville. And finally, a press conference. When you hear "press conference", we have a new coach.

No doubt Hamilton wants to announce as soon as possible, mainly to help recruiting. The key problem being that if the new HC is a current college or NFL coach, you have to consider how the announcement affects that team, and their season. The new HC will have a say in that as well.

The longer it goes, the worse for UT. Personally, I think we're going to end up with (in no particular order) Kiffin, Leach, or Peterson.

EDIT: or Kelly.

Go Vols.

There is no rush to announce now. They can safely wait untill after the regular season. Signing day isn't untill the frist part of Feb. so if a new coach is announced the first week of Dec there is still time to salvage the class. The only problem I see is the rumors of the current coaches blowing off the recruits and telling them to look elsewhere. If this is true MH needs to take immediate action and dismiss these guys.
