Will Power5 schools refuse to schedule JState?

Hear me out. If you want to makes sure this doesn't become a trend of losing elite athletes to small schools over NIL like this why not just everyone agree not to schedule them. Just play hard ball and this will go away. Plus I have a feeling large NIL deals will start to fizzle out as people get burned with bust.

They haven’t played a Power 5 school in the last four seasons. So not sure this plan would have any effect

Also not sure why people are acting like the sky is falling cause a kid is going to Jackson State. I love that the dude is forging his own path, and I love Florida State losing a commit to an FCS school coached by a former player

Well, first of all, no Power 5 schools played Jackson State this season. They only played one FBS team, ULM, and that was their only loss of the season. One five-star recruit might catch them up to ULM, a 4-8 team from a Group of 5 conference, but it hardly makes them a threat to any big boys. The last time before 2021 that they played an FBS team was Southern Mississippi, who crushed them in 2018.

And why should Power 5 conferences try a power play against FCS teams to keep them from recruiting better players? That's just stupid. Honestly, if you're a power 5 conference team and a five-star signs with Jackson State instead of a Power 5 school, that's a good thing for you--you will never play Jackson State anyway, so that player will never be a problem for you.

Top-notch recruits have signed with HBCUs before, although it was rare. Eddie Robinson and Doug Williams used to get them occasionally at Grambling. Deion pulled it off because he's Deion. If he stays at JSU, he will get one here and there. But it won't make any real difference. Most kids are going to go for the big-time if they can. This is just the football version of when Adonal Foyle spurned Coach K to play for Colgate.

good examples but those kids weren't getting paid. That part is an unknown variable. Didn't realize that had not played a power 5 school in that long.

We. have never played them in the past, why would we begin now. I do not know all the players they signed this year and it takes a team to win football games. I doubt that they will be ready to join the SEC in the near future.

I don't think there's a big chance of this becoming a trend... and so what if it does? He's going to short change himself by playing a lower level of competition. Whatever NIL money he's getting will likely be offset by Draft Day.

No reason to worry about this:
  • This is an expensive 1-time publicity stunt by Barstool Sports and Deion Sanders; Barstool will probably lose money on it and never do it again,
  • Deion's trying to get a P5 job; as soon as he gets one, Hunter will likely follow him there,
  • Pretty unlikely that you're going to see a sudden surge of million dollar NIL deals at FCS schools that can barely pay their own bills,
  • Getting one 5-star player isn't going to make you suddenly competitive with the top P5 programs; we've had at least one 5 star on our roster for years and we still sucked most of the past decade
No need to "play hardball". It's unsustainable to begin with and it happened with 1 blue-chip recruit out of hundreds. And Jackson State hasn't played a P5 school in years anyway. In fact, their schedule was too soft to make the FCS playoffs this year in spite of going 11-0 in FCS play.

No, still an easy W. Sounds like you want the FBS to act like a spoiled brat because one kid (and maybe a few) go FCS.

I would be agreeable to not scheduling or adding Texas to the SEC until everyone gets on an equal NIL playing field or some rules or salary caps are established.

Just Cap NIL @ 50,000 per player per year. Awarded at end of the year, if player is in good standing and has fulfilled his obligations as a student and athlete....
If players can get the same deal at every School then so be it....Takes the money out of the game and brings it back to a level playing field.

Nobody is going to give this kid even a second thought until they show JSU’s first game in August before the big boys start playing on Labor Day. Even if he plays well, it’s still going to be against low level competition.

Sanders is using his platform as a coach and luring players in through NIL to land a Power 5 job. He’ll be at FSU at the earliest this time next year. FSU will pay the buyout for Norvell and Sanders will doing what he’s doing now but on the biggest stage. He’ll get players but it won’t translate to wins and he’ll be out in 3-4 years too

I don't think that is as easy as it sounds. The NIL ruling implies that universities and the NCAA cannot deny someone's right to earn money from his or her name, image or likeness. Setting a cap is really just a different version of denying them altogether.

Its a free market. If you dont want to 'lose' athletes to small schools, make a better offer.

There isnt a P5 school in America that isnt sitting on multiple-millions (in some cases a billion) of endowments (which arent taxed, btw), or deep-pockets boosters.

Want the elite? Ante up.
