Kelvin Sampson is on a game-by-game basis right now,if Indiana goes on a 4 game losing streak he may be fired now but either way unless he leads Indiana to the Final Four, its likely he will be fired or forced to resign at the end of the season.

My uncle is an Indiana grad and he believes that Indiana will be interested in Bruce Pearl.

That is one program I conceded in another thread Pearl could leave us for.

They are more prestigious basketballwise than us.

We all know Bobby Knight's going back to Bloomington (sarcastic face here)...take it for what its worth, Indiana basketball fans are like Tennessee football fans, a couple things go awry and everyone calls for the coaches head. I'll give it some time before giving serious thought to the chance of Sampson being fired and Pearl being hunted.

I'm not sure Pearl will leave as long as his kid(s) are still in school at UT. After that - I think it's fair game. It would surprise me if he left this early.. but it would be understandable if he were to go to somewhere like Indiana.

I'm sure that Pearl will leverage a (hopefully) big showing in the tourney combined with other school interest to get a big pay day this offseason from Hamilton and Co.

Pearl has said multiple times money isn't an issue here.

I'm with bassman, I don't think he'll go until his kids are done with school.

And one more thing, I don't think Indiana wants him.

Indiana wants someone proven in the Big Dance. If Pearl were to take us to a Final Four this year they might go after him. I don't think he will leave us anytime soon though.

I don't think any Big 10 team outside Iowa would hire him.

Eh. I think Iowa or Indiana would.. After all Illinois and Indiana are rivals. Talk about bringing the rivalry to another notch. Can you imagine Pearl saying things about Illinois at Indiana, rather than about Kentucky here.

I can gurantee you they will go after someone with a very clean, clean, Mr. Clean record, I believe the Deon Thomas incident would keep Indiana away from him and he wouldn't leave anyway.

Yeah it would be good. Bob Knight took up for Bruce during the Iowa debacle.

But I just don't see Pearl leaving for at least another 3 years.

That's just me.

I'd say a coach proving himself to be a liar, a scumbag, and a recidivist cheater is more than "a couple of things going awry." Kelvin Sampson should have already been fired.

Pearl said he couldn't see himself leaving "before the job is even done." But, every coach everywhere has made such promises at some point.

Because Illinois WAS cheating. Knight was so angry at the crap that Jimmy Collins was pulling that he feuded with Lou Henson for several years. One year, one of Don DeVoe's mediocre UT teams upset one of Illinois' semi-pro teams and Knight took time to call and congratulate DeVoe.

As for Pearl/Knight/whoever to Indiana...

1. The only way Bob Knight would go back to Indiana is if they made him Führer. Not just of the athletic department, but the whole university. He'd never allow himself to be in a position where he could be fired again.

2. Pearl wasn't interested in Indiana two years ago, when our program wasn't nearly in this good a shape and Indiana wasn't looking at probation. Why would he leave UT now, to a program that's looking more and more like UAT football after Bear?

3. Indiana doesn't like to pay their coaches. UT can and will pay whatever it takes.

4. He may be overrated as hell, but their fans are calling for Steve Alford. (Another reason I say they're turning into Bama football...) And after the Sampson debacle, only a true-blue Hoosier is going to satisfy them.

The smile brought upon Bruce's face everytime he talks about his brand new "classroom" in Pratt Pavilion is nearly priceless. UT has given Bruce Pearl opportunity, facilities and in return we all want a championship... I believe that the facilities themself keep Pearl in Knoxville. Think what the man has done in 3 years, let alone in the future...
