One theory
Tom Brady is that good and one of the biggest reasons they are great so they will decline.

2nd theory
Tom Brady is good but is sorrounded by a great team and killer O line and the team will keep winning even with the new QB. Tom is a little overated.

Brady is surrounded by solid offensive talent now, but their D isn't what it once was, so I suspect it's downhill this year.

They will still make the playoffs. The overall talent level is too high. They'll just adjust the offense to fit the scrub QB and still go 11-5.

Their play has to get worse. They barley beat a bad KC team at home. You lose your starting QB and already have a gray beard defense, loses are bound to come. Miami, NYJ, and Buf look to all be improved. Teams are going to remember them running it up on them and aren't going to let up.

8-11 wins, but not too deep of a playoff run unless the rb becomes some hybrid eddie george/ marshall faulk

Don't forget, up until last year the Patriots scrapped for most wins. They ran the ball more and found ways to win games. They play in an improving AFC East, but it's still weak and they should win it easily. There defense is old and isn't as dominant as it was during there championship years. Still, they have the greatest coach in NFL history so I won't write them off yet.

Both.

I'm not going to say that Brady is "overrated," quite, but it's amazing how much his reputation shot up last year once he was throwing to Randy Moss. If whoever plays QB for the Patriots can scrape by well enough to keep Moss engaged, they'll be okay. Not "win the Super Bowl" okay, probably, but certainly "make the playoffs" okay. They've got the easiest schedule in the NFL this year.

Let me start by saying I believe Brady is a good QB. He has had the luxury of a pretty good to excellent receiving corp during his tenure. The addition of Moss was the key to their success last year. His biggest help came from the defensive side of the ball, yes, a good defense is a QB's best friend, it helps to keep the pressure off the offense. This asset is in decline as their defense over all is aging and loosing a step at many positions. Put Brady on another team and he would still be good, not great but good, say around the top 7-9. I think Brady needs Beliceck more than Beliceck (sp?) needs him.

I hate the patriots, and Brady... But do you really think Rex Grossman would tear it up just because belicheck is his coach? Absolutely not. Brady is filthy... the first few years he did well, he didn't have near the receivers he does now.
I won't argue that their defense helped, cuz obviously it did, but even with a bad defense Brady still would have torn the other team's secondary apart.

EDIT: i'm tired. typos happen.

I never said Brady would not be good. I just think Brady would in the mix for top 7-8 instead of in the top two or three if not for Beliceck.

Was Beliceck's time there more of a learning experience or do you believe the team he put together with the Patriots made him.

I know I seemed to have indicated otherwise but I am not quite sure if it is Beliceck, the team or a little of both that has brought the patriots so much success.
