I have a feeling that UT will float a couple of big names and make a modest effort just to satisfy the public. Then I see them trying to sell us a Yugo and tell us it is a Lexus.

Hubbs said tonight that we just would not go out and spend big bucks for a coach because we have too many projects going on. If that is the case then we can look forward to a Yugo program when Georgia, Florida, and Alabama are driving Lexus, Mercedes, and Cadillacs.

This will not bring in the recruits or put fannies in the seats. Too many good games in HD in the living room for us to drive a Yugo in Neyland.

If Hamilton hires a cheap coach...he along with the coach will be looking for a job in 3 years!

Hubbs is a moron. With the CBS and ESPN contract money, it will be no issue for Tennessee to spend big bucks.

Absolutely not...Hamilton can not go cheap on this as football is the big money maker at UT and when the fans aren't happy, Nobody is happy...He will do his best to nab the biggest name coach out there that's available to put butts in those seats...If not then HIS job is on the line...He can not fail

If you add another seat you can call it a 'Wego.' :) No. I think we throw big bucks out there to get a big name.

I just hope the contract is performance based and not a ton of guaranteed money. Look at Weis!

I agree Hubbs is an idiot. Usually 90% wrong about statements concerning UT football. He thinks he's the person "in the know" about UT football.....what a joke!

I don't see anyway he doesn't go out and get the best coach he can, regardless of money. This could be the biggest decision he has to make.

Hamilton is a smart man. I am tired of this Hamilton is an idiot stuff not to say he does not make mistakes we all do. He will get the best guy he can. He will go after Gruden/Davis or already has and offer what he can. We do not know what he is capable of offering. If that fails he will look at other best options. Kiffin versus a Leach, Peterson, or Kelly. If he gets Kelly which will make some happy and some not it is because the big guys said no or we were not offering enough which is not his call. He knows the financial need to have a winning football program and this is what motivates him. He will not get an out of no where hire like Pearl unless others say no. Men's Bball was in a place where he could make a move like that without as much to lose. Here there is too much on the line. He needs excitement and seats filled. I think Kiffin is our worst case scenario from all the rumors swirling i.e. it has been said we are his number one choice. Kiffin seems to be waiting on us. Once we hire other chips will fall.

I would rather have a sure thing and pay the money than take a bigger gamble by "going cheap".

Kiffin claimed to be seriously interested in the Washington job yet he hasn't jumped on it OR they aren't interested in HIM!....Hmmmmm

At this point I have read so much I cannot recall where but on some site somewhere in some article a source close to Kiffin was quoted he really really wants the Tennessee Job and is waiting on us as long as he can.

And I am 100 percent confident of everything I just said.

LSU went semi-cheap and it worked fine.
Ohio State and Oklahoma didn't break the bank initially for the guys they presently have. That worked out alright for them. If it were simply a spending issue, Iowa would be in the top 10.

He better not. Taking a risk like Raleigh is all fine and well for baseball, but we are a football school and always will be. The head coach of the football team is the face of the university. As much as I love Pat Summit and Bruce Pearl that is the way it is, and will always be. Hamilton better think twice before trying to go cheap. I still say we should make a run at Bob Stoops, but thats just me I suppose.

You could get Brian Kelly for $2-2.5 million and have a good coach without breaking the bank.

It's more important to get a good coach than get a big named coach...

Exactly . . . It's just as important to have smart people hiring the coach as it is to have a big checkbook.

Yeah but Les Miles was just a caretaker for a talent rich team Saban left Bayou Bengals loaded. Fulmer is leaving the new regime with Eric Berry and thats it. Haslam is going to have to write some large checks on this one, or firing Philip is all for not

if they get Brian Kelly they better not pay him 2million he should get about the same as Houston Nutt at Ole Miss. Have his contract incentive loaded to reward him for performance. he is not the big name caliber to require a huge guaranteed sum of money

College basketball and football are full of "big name hires" that didn't work out as expected.

IMO….with the apathy that now surrounds this program; I do not think he can afford to go cheap. It will take an exciting hire to get people willing to shell out their VASF donations for next year.
